Quarterback Russell Wilson has struck one of the greatest deals in NFL history. On Sept. 1 Wilson agreed to a five-year, $245 million extension with the Denver Broncos. His new contract comes with $165 million in guaranteed salary.
“For me, this has been an amazing journey. I remember being up on the stage not too long ago and talking about the visions and the goals and the missions, and I think the best part of it all is when you’re around some amazing people, amazing teammates who are so dedicated to the craft, it makes this that much more enjoyable,” Wilson said in a news conference. “I believe this is a marriage, and you want to be here for a long time, and my goal is to be able to finish my career here.”
Wilson will be paid an average annual salary of $49 million through this extension. The deal also keeps him playing in Denver throughout the 2028 season. According to the Guardian, Wilson’s deal is the third-highest in NFL history associated with guaranteed money, following Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals and the Cleveland Browns’ Deshaun Watson.
Wilson landed with the Denver Broncos following a trade in March from the Seattle Seahawks that included three players and five draft picks. During the trade, Wilson had two years and $51 million remaining on his contract. Yet there is no loss – Wilson is expected to earn $24 million this football season and $27 million before his extension even begins.
A Look At Wilson’s Career
Wilson played for the Seattle Seahawks from 2012 to 2021. He led the Seahawks to win Super Bowl 48 in 2014 – the team’s only NFL title to date. In the past ten years, Wilson has achieved 292 touchdown passes.
Considered one of the highest-paid athletes in the world, Wilson is one of the highest-paid quarterbacks. He has a current net worth of $165 million.
Wilson Receives Support From Wife

And that’s not all.
