Rapper Kanye West and his ex-wife Kim Kardashian are finally coming to amicable terms regarding the loose ends of their divorce, at least according to some reports. The one-time “It” couple was in dispute about the division of income, expenses and issues surrounding the rearing of their four children.
Court documents show Kardashian started sending over to Ye’s team paperwork about her finances after she filed for divorce in 2021, and has recently filed a final declaration of disclosure and information about her income and expenses.
Her lawyers broke down her monthly expenses and the many ways the billionaire receives income. Kardashian also showed spaces in her portfolio that have produced some of her debt, according to Radar Online.
The Finances
West was the hold-up and didn’t submit any documents until last month.
At the time of their initial split, both influencers were billionaires. However, things have changed drastically for at least one of them in Q3 2022.
Kardashian can boast an estimated $1.8 billion net worth, raking in millions of dollars in endorsements, television, cosmetics, fragrance (including one that made $10 million in sales in one day) and her undergarment company, SKIMS, the insider reports.
The reality star and now law school graduate also makes her wealth by charging to speak at conferences throughout the year.
At the time of their split, the Grammy Award winner boasted a net worth of $6.6 billion. His diverse portfolio includes real estate, music publishing, touring, merchandising and fashion. At one point, fashion was the most profitable, as he had a multi-billion deal with GAP and a multibillion-dollar deal with Adidas for his Yeezy brand.
West’s Money Drop
Over the last four months, countless headlines of manic behavior, with cases of West attacking brands with which he’d partnered soured the professional relationships with the retail entities and ended his deal with GAP. However, it was anti-Semitic rants on hispart that made not only Adidas severe its ties with the producer-turned-rapper-turned-fashion designer, but alienated him from platforms he once used to promote his other ventures.
Now the creative has dropped from billionaire status and is worth $500 million.
One element of the divorce that is still being hammered out is the custody of West’s and Kardashian’s four children.
According to the Daily Mail, there is a scheduled child custody and property settlement trial in December 2022, but the family is working to make some decisions outside of court.
Ye has hired representation, in the form of attorney Nick Salick, after his divorce lawyers Bob Cohen and Bernard Clair parted ways with him in the wake of his remarks about Jewish people.
What’s at Stake
The former couple shares daughters North, 9, Chicago, 4, and sons Saint, 6, and Psalm, 3. The primary custody right now, according to West, is with Kardashian.
“Even to this day, I’ll still give Kim advice on things that can help, because that’s gonna go to the kids. She’s still got to, basically, 80 percent of the time, raise those children,” he said in a recent interview.
There is no word on if he is aiming to have more time with his children, though, in 2021, he purchased a home across the street from the family home so that he can be close to his children.
