Supermodel Naomi Campbell is known for being a trailblazer in the fashion industry as she is not only one of the original supermodels but also the first Black woman to grace the cover of many prominent magazines. Now she is taking on a new role: as the brand ambassador of BMW’s XM’s “Dare to Be You” campaign and the designer of her own BMW XM.
“The BMW M slogan, ‘Dare to be You,’ immediately appealed to me because it describes exactly the confident attitude that is necessary for progress and positive change,” Campbell recently told Hypebeast.
Born in England, Campbell is one of the most coveted models in the world. At the age of 7, she was featured in Bob Marley’s “Is This Love” video. Five years later, she appeared in Culture Club’s “I’ll Tumble 4 Ya” video. At the age of 15, she was discovered by Beth Boldt of the Synchro Model Agency and was the cover model of British Elle.
As one of the first supermodels in the 1980s and 1990s, Campbell was featured as the cover model of more than 500 magazines. She was also the first Black woman to grace the cover of French and British “Vogue” and “Time.” Throughout the 1990s, she was featured in music videos by George Michael, Aretha Franklin, Madonna and Michael Jackson. She also appeared in movies such as “Zoolander,” and “Girl 6” as well as television shows such as “Empire,” and “American Horror Story: Hotel.”
In recent years, Campbell served as an executive producer for the reality television shows “The Face US,” “The Face UK,” and “The Face Australia.” Her web series, “No Filter with Naomi,” streamed until 2022.
Campbell has a net worth estimated at $80 million.
Brand Ambassador and Designer
The XM is BMW’s latest luxury SUV. It combines a V8 M-division TwinPower Turbo engine along with the brand’s fifth-generation battery technology.
As the face of XM’s “Dare To Be You” campaign, Campbell will promote the brand’s commitment to “Dedication. Determination. Drive” as she shared on a recent Instagram post.
BMW and Campbell will also be designing a high-performance vehicle just for her liking. Based on the XM, the SUV is meant to be one-of-a-kind model that is symbolic of Campbell’s commitment to the fashion industry and her legacy as a trailblazing model.
“Naomi Campbell is a woman who goes her own way unswervingly and has become not only a unique supermodel but also a fascinating personality,” Jens Thiermer, senior vice president customer and brand BMW, said in a statement. “There are few people who can identify with the motto ‘Dare to be You’ as strongly as she can.”
