Celebrity power couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z are known for their lavish lifestyle, and when it comes to gifting their daughter Blue Ivy, they also spare no expense.
Besides 11-year-old Blue Ivy, who has been performing with mom on her Renaissance tour worldwide, the family also includes twin brother and sister Sir and Rumi, both 5.
One of their most extravagant gifts to Blue Ivy was reportedly an $80,000 Barbie doll on her first birthday. This exclusive Barbie is adorned with 160 diamonds in white gold. She received the expensive gift during her first-year princess-themed party held in New York. According to Hello Beautiful, the party also featured $77,000 worth of pink and white roses and $25,000 worth of toys and accessories for all of Blue’s guests.
“Blue Ivy’s unique Barbie doll isn’t the only figurine to have made the news. Last year, a Barbie doll modeled on Queen Elizabeth II, created by Mattel in celebration of her 96th birthday and 70th year on the throne, also grabbed headlines. Our analysis revealed the doll was bedecked in replicas of over $83 million worth of royal jewelry,” diamond expert Steven Stone told Hello Beautiful in July.
It’s a Barbie World
People have collected the Barbie doll for decades, but with the release of the live-action “Barbie” movie last month, there has been a resurgence of all things Barbie, according to USA Today.
As of two days ago, the “Barbie” movie has earned nearly $775 million globally, making it one of the highest-grossing films of the year, Axios reported.
Online collectible toy store Brian’s Toys reported a major boost in inquiries from people looking to sell their Barbies. And Barbie sales have increased by approximately 200 percent since the movie’s release, USA Today reported.
Over at online auction house and marketplace eBay, the number of collectible Barbie Signature dolls sold globally was up over 900 percent between 2021 and 2022, according to Gene Cook, vice president of global collectibles at eBay.
Searches for “Barbie Dream Pool” and “Barbie convertible” on the site were up more than 10 percent the week following the Barbie movie’s trailer release compared to the week prior.
“The movie has done a really nice job of having something to appeal to everybody. And that’s what we’re seeing in the marketplace,” Cook told USA Today.
What’s Barbie Worth?
Vintage Barbies from the 1959-1966 era are generally more valuable, while newer ones with platinum or gold labels can also hold significant worth. But the values are wide-ranging. Some dolls can fetch thousands, while others may be worth less than $10.
