Former NBA All-Star Lamar Odom, who publicly has battled addiction, is taking a hands-on approach to advancing his mission to help those in need of rehabilitation while strengthening his relationship with his children.
The New York City native is bringing his kids into the fold of his business venture, Odom Recovery Group, according to the company’s official website.
What Led Odom to Enter Rehab Business
Since facing a near-fatal drug overdose in 2015, Odom has undergone a profound transformation in recent years. He launched Odom Wellness Treatment Centers in California, with locations in San Diego, El Cajon and Lemon Grove.
The initiative to help others pursue sobriety, Odom said, is connected to his own personal journey.
“God saved me, so I can save others,” Odom shared passionately in an Instagram post.
Making it a Family Business
According to TMZ, Odom’s daughter, Destiny Morales, has taken on a significant role within the organization as a client representative. Her responsibilities include the task of documenting patient information, and ensuring a smooth intake process for individuals seeking rehabilitation services.
Simultaneously, Odom’s son, Lamar Jr., is actively involved by shadowing his father in the capacity of a marketing consultant. This role positions him to step in on behalf of Lamar Odom when needed.
The centers offer comprehensive treatment programs, encompassing detox, inpatient facilities, outpatient programming and transitional supportive housing, as highlighted on the company’s website.
Odom has garnered attention for his efforts to support individuals in their journey to recovery by occasionally bringing in celebrities to his rehab center, further emphasizing the importance of seeking help and destigmatizing addiction. Odom’s commitment to expanding access to rehabilitation is evident as he has acquired a total of 14 rehab centers, according to TMZ.
But Odom’s commitment to making a positive impact goes beyond just rehabilitation. He recently embarked on a new venture, a senior-care facility, driven by his deep love and concern for his 96-year-old grandmother, Florence.
Recognizing the complexities and challenges that seniors and their families face when seeking quality care, Odom aims to simplify the process. The company’s website underscores his dedication to providing long-term assisted living and memory care solutions that deliver excellent value for seniors’ well-being.
Odom, who has an estimated net worth of $30 million, is continuing to expand his business ventures in rehabilitative services by launching his own cannabis brand, Rich Soil Organics. Cannabis played a vital role in his recovery by offering him an alternative and less harmful means to cope with his addiction struggles.
In an interview with The Blast, Odom explained that the inspiration behind Rich Soil Organics came from his own experience with cannabis as a healing agent during his battle with addiction to stronger substances.
“While going through rehab, I discovered certain strains that support wellness,” he shared. “Friends, associates, and ex-teammates asked me what solutions I was using on my road back to recovery, and that’s when Rich Soil Organics was born. It’s a perfect time to offer these cannabis solutions to the public who may be going through similar body issues as I am.”
