Hip-hop mogul 50 Cent may be busy trolling Diddy over the slew of sexual assault lawsuits against the Bad Boy Records founder. Still, the Queens, New York, rapper has worries of his own. The outlet reported that court documents recently have resurfaced about an unresolved $1 billion lawsuit 50 Cent has been dealing with since 2021.
The executive producer behind the hit television series “Power,” actually has been battling in two lawsuits from the same individual, one seeking $1 billion and the other $300 million. The lawsuits are filed by Cory Holland Sr., who claims to be the real-life inspiration behind the character “Ghost” in the show.
In 2021, Cory Holland Sr., who was allegedly a former drug kingpin with the street name “Ghost,” filed a $1 billion lawsuit against 50 Cent, Courtney Kemp, Starz and Lionsgate, AllHipHop reported at the time.
Holland claimed that a significant portion of the “Power” series was based on his life story without his permission. Holland asserted that the storylines in the show closely resembled his life, which he had recorded in 2007 to discourage at-risk youth from pursuing a life of crime by highlighting the dangers of street life.
Holland’s complaint stated, “This is not one of those lawsuits from a deranged fan or somebody trying to capitalize on someone else’s success. This is about the actual theft of my life, and the damages that it has done as well as the profits that the defendants have made from the theft of telling my life story without my consent.”
It’s My Life
Additionally, the lawsuit aims to prevent Lionsgate Entertainment from using Holland’s life story as the basis for future projects, while the $1 billion lawsuit remains pending.
Holland asserted that the storylines closely mirrored his own life experiences, which originated from a set of recordings he made in 2007. These recordings were aimed at discouraging at-risk young individuals from following his street-life path.
In the complaint, Holland wrote, “This is not one of those lawsuits from a deranged fan or some somebody trying capitalize off of someone else’s success. This is about the actual theft of my life, and the damages that it has done as well the profits that the defendants have made from the of stealing and telling my life story without my consent.”
More Legal Woes
In a separate lawsuit, Holland accused 50 Cent of assaulting him as a form of intimidation, seeking $300 million in damages for intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence in hiring and retention, and other charges.
50 Cent and his legal team are still pushing for the dismissal of the lawsuit, arguing that it is “untimely.” They claim that Holland’s allegations of severe emotional distress are contradicted by the fact that he owns a weapon and repeatedly attempted to confront 50 Cent.
The artist’s team argues that the alleged incidents occurred over a year before the lawsuit was filed. They state, “The assault claim should, therefore, be dismissed for failure to state a claim because the First Amended Complaint is devoid of any allegations to support such a claim against Jackson.”
But Holland alleges that Fif had physically assaulted him as a form of intimidation–and he wants $300 million in compensation for deliberate infliction of emotional distress and claimed negligence in the hiring and retention process, among other charges.
