There are two major reasons why hip-hop mogul and rapper Rick Ross says he purchased his private Gulfstream G550 jet: to triple his wealth and so that his mother would not have to go through TSA ever again.
For the Maybach Music executive, that was a boss move he feels very good about making.
Ross and His Luxury Investments
The 47-year-old rapper-turned-businessman, whose estimated net worth is $150 million, sat down with the Robb Report for an interview on his Star Island property and talked about the extraordinary investment.
He said while he adores the sexiness of the plane, he got it because it made sense
The bonus for him was that he could pick up and take his mom and sister wherever in the world they might want to go. Most recently, he took them to Jamaica. While trip-taking is something he loves to do for his family, his concern is also for his mother.
“I don’t gotta worry about my mom going through TSA no more,” he said in his talk with Robb Report in a feature published this week.
The “Hustling” chart-topper has the option of keeping the newly acquired jet to use for his personal lavishness, but most likely he intends for it to make money for him.
“When I spoke to some of my counterparts, some guys that I’m in business with, it was most definitely based on me being able to get more things accomplished,” he explains.
Family and business aside, it is still a toy for Ross.
Above all of his toys, his iconic car collection, jewelry, businesses, and properties, the jet is his crown jewel, and he says he spared no expense to customize it to his liking. Rozay tapped Duncan Aviation to design the interior, opting for a palette of chocolate browns, tans, and reds. The seats are adorned with pillows featuring his name, and he commissioned Louis Vuitton throw blankets, specially crafted by his tailor, to add a touch of luxury and personalization.
The shiny black 96-foot-long G550, wrapped with his name in gold (with each “S” changed to a dollar sign) and his Maybach Music logo on the side, is parked outside in his own airplane hangar.
He talked about the decision to get his own plane and for him it was just the right business move and the right time.
“I flew Delta for so long [before getting his own plane],” Ross says before noting that he flew so much that he had Diamond Medallion status with the airline.
Inside the aircraft, he says is “that Rozay vibe,” as he points out the plush leather and premium accents of woods and other expensive features. It also comfortably seats 16 people and has a full kitchen where he has someone make his food for him.
“That [the kitchen] was just something that was really important to me,” he told the outlet. “A lot of planes come without one, but I had to have that.”
The price of a Gulfstream G550 is in the $62 million range, according to Private Jet Card Comparisons. It is “powered by two Rolls-Royce BR710-C4-11 turbofan engines, which provide a maximum cruise speed of Mach 0.87 and a range of up to 6,750 nautical miles (7,760 miles).”
Ross has added his jet to an extensive collection of high-end vehicles, ranging from Mercedes-Benz and Ferraris to Rolls-Royce, Lamborghinis, and Chevrolets.

The cars make money for him too. He annually organizes an exclusive car and bike exhibition at his “Promise Land” property in the Atlanta suburb of Fayetteville. Tickets for this acclaimed “greatest automotive experience” begin at $325.
At his last car show, a fan parachuted into the backyard, reminding the boss of the extent people will go to be next to him.
