Kanye West’s low-budget production Super Bowl commercial took many by surprise. It showcased him seated in his softly lit car, endorsing his Yeezy brand website. The embattled hip-hop mogul claimed he spent $7 million on his Super Bowl slot, which sounds about right. In 2023, according to The Wall Street Journal, a 30-second slot for the big game was $7 million. But what’s even more surprising was not just seeing Ye in the ad, but he says he raked in remarkable $19 million in sales for his Yeezy products.
While there is no way to verify the numbers, since West is dropping the products independently, if he is giving accurate numbers, the return on his $7 million ad would seem successful.
According to TMZ, despite the controversy surrounding West’s ongoing anti-Semitic remarks, his minimalist ad struck a chord with viewers, proving to be a resounding success.
The Yeezy website boasts a range of offerings, with a focus on four main products: tops, pants, T-shirts, and his latest creation, the YZY Pods — each for $20.
The initial announcement last year of the YZY Pods, socks with a black satin boot appearance, presenting themselves as a hybrid between socks and boots, was met with skepticism from those who thought the Pods’ unusual application and steep $200 price tag spelled failure at launch.
As more details emerged, so did the public’s opinion on the Pods, with some women suggesting the Pod would make an excellent substitute for high heels.
It appears West’s strategy, to sell an overpriced pair of socks, provide minimal details until launch day, and at the last minute, reduce the price by 90 percent, from $200 to $20, paid off, as reported by Nice Kicks.
For early adopters who pre-order the Pods, West is offering a $180 credit with their purchase.
In addition to the YZY Pods, West is also selling a collection of Vultures 1 pieces, along with two versions of the popular WET design from Mowalola, all priced at $20. The release of his new Vultures album, “Vulture Volume 1,” coincides with the 20th anniversary of his “College Dropout” album, Feb. 10, 2004, which may explain why everything on the website is priced at $20, coinciding with this significant milestone.
West is not done with music as he is expected to release “Vultures 2” on March 8, followed up by “Vultures 3” on April 5.
