Forget all the memes about former NFL star Shannon Sharpe and his man purse. He’s more concerned about what’s in the bag. During a recent episode of his “Nightcap” show while chatting with his co-host, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, Sharpe revealed that he made more money from his January interview with comedian Katt Williams than in any year he played in the NFL.
Sharpe is Laughing All the Way to the Bank
Sharpe, who has an estimated net worth of $14 million, addressed the criticism he’s faced in recent months and asserted that while some may be laughing at him, he’s the one laughing all the way to the bank. He urged his detractors to triple whatever amount they think he earned from the interview, indicating a substantial windfall.
Sharpe pushed back against the hate and said that while some are “out here trying to be funny,” they’re actually helping him “go straight to the bank.”
He revealed, “Everybody was talking about how much money I made doing the Katt Williams interview. I just got the check. So whatever you think I made, 3x it. So if you think I made $500,000, 3x it. If you think I made a million, 3x it. If you think I made $2 million, 3x it.”
Sharpe also quipped, “Don’t y’all hatin’ mofos stop! I’m done with it. I’m gon’ get this paper. I know this gon’ go viral. So whatever y’all think I made, 3X it! I made more money on Katt Williams alone than I made in any year that I played in the NFL.”
In 2000, Sharpe inked a $5 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens, with a whopping $4.5 million coming from a signing bonus. Throughout his career, his annual earnings fluctuated between $110,000 and $3 million in other years. In total, Sharpe earned $11.5 million over his NFL career, which spanned 1990 to 2004, according to Spotrac.
The former tight end recently showcased his newfound wealth by flaunting a luxury Rolex acquired after receiving his hefty paycheck.
Since the interview with Williams, Sharpe has faced backlash and ridicule online, including unfounded allegations about his personal life. However, he remains seemingly unbothered, emphasizing his commitment to securing financial success and expanding his business ventures.
Sharpe’s partnership with Total Wines, which initially drew criticism, has now expanded to multiple states.
The interview with Williams garnered more than 60 million views and was a major media story.
