Former NBA star and celebrity DJ Shaquille O’Neal recently took to social media to show off what he says is his new property in Macau, China. Entirely decorated in white, creams, and gold, the space exudes luxury and opulence, all the way down to monogrammed pillows for Shaq.
The clip starts off with Shaq walking into the residence, saying, “I just bought a penthouse in Macau. Come check it out.”
According to the retired Los Angeles Laker center, he and his team do a lot of business in China, which justified why he needed a home there.
A Place in China for Shaq
As soon as he walked into the space, immediately one could see his wait staff there, stepping aside to let him walk through. Standing 7 feet 1, he makes the smartly dressed men look like tiny “Men In Black” action figures.
To his right, he shows a theater room that he uses to entertain people with karaoke and other performances. It features a huge cream three-pronged sectional and large television.
Down and across the way from the entertainment room is a massage nook. After showing off the minimalistic room, Shaq flirtingly said, “Not that I get massages.”
The property also has a kitchen, a massive gold bathroom complete with shower and tub accented with mirrors and a gold floor. So much gold overlay was a part of the interior design, the New Jersey native said it was from his own gold reserve. Shaq leaves the bathroom to enter the penthouse’s guest room, but he did not go into detail when showing it.
The living room separated the guestroom from his master bedroom.
Inside the room, ceiling-to-floor windows flooded the space with natural light, complemented by dazzling glass chandeliers. An island served as the focal point for entertaining guests with food, while brass banisters added a touch of elegance. Two walls housed a multi-media center, and there were also seating areas featuring a beautiful black piano on one side.
The gracious tour guide then led the cameras into his master bedroom, showcasing gold panels adorning the headboards of his sleigh bed. On the bed were pillows with DJ Diesel, his deejaying name, stitched on the side. At the foot of the bed sat a gift, prompting a playful comment from him, jokingly attributing it to his “boo.”
The penthouse offers a more subdued aesthetic compared to Shaq’s extravagant Florida mansion, which struggled to attract buyers due to its opulent styling.
The four-time NBA champion and Basketball Hall of Famer faced challenges selling the mansion, cycling through five different agents and relisting the property five times over three years. Eventually, in 2021, the mansion sold for $11 million, marking a substantial 60 percent discount from its original asking price. Initially listed at $28 million, the 31,000-square-foot Isleworth mansion failed to meet market expectations.
Despite the markdown, Shaq still turned a profit, having purchased the home in 1993 for $3.95 million.
