Spending an anniversary alone amidst ongoing divorce rumors reportedly has Jennifer Lopez ready for an epic divorce battle. Just days after throwing shade at her estranged husband on Instagram by posting the video “El Cambio Paso,” a song about embracing new beginnings, Lopez is reportedly ready for a fight over money.
The couple has seemingly been experiencing conflict in their marriage since January. Affleck reportedly moved out of their $61 million mansion in March. Despite random sightings together and still wearing their wedding bands — on and off — several media outlets predict that divorce is imminent for the couple. And Lopez, who allegedly footed the bill during most of their relationship, is ready to seek a financial payback.
“One of the little-known secrets is Jennifer paid for much of their marital expenses and now she feels he owes her,” RadarOnline reported it was told by unnamed insider. “She’s adding up all those private jet bills she puts on her plastic, the hotels, and meals, clothes, coffee runs, gas. The high cost of living was done on her dime. She paid the lion’s share for that $60 million mansion they bought, too.”
Radar’s source said Lopez, who is worth a reported $400 million, was responsible for footing the bill for most of the couple’s luxurious expenses, and she reportedly wants Affleck, whose net worth is valued at $150 million, to pay her back.
“She’s demanding a full inventory of what she spent versus what he spent and wants all the money back she ‘invested,’” the gossip site’s mole said. “She isn’t the one who gave up on their marriage and she’s feeling seriously burned and is out for blood.”
If a divorce is looming, we will have to see how the financial demands play out.
The couple eloped for a small ceremony in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022, before having a lavish one later.
California is a community property state, which means that in a divorce, assets and debts acquired during the marriage are generally split 50/50 between the spouses. In the event of a divorce, all community property will be divided equally, with each party receiving half. Separate property owned by each spouse is retained by its respective owner.
Where Did They Go Wrong?
Lopez and Affleck famously began dating in 2001 after meeting on the set of “Gigli.” Although Lopez was separated from her second husband, Chris Judd, that did not stop the couple from going public with their love. Before her divorce was finalized from Judd, Affleck had already proposed with a 6.10-carat stone pink diamond ring that was valued at $1 million. However, the two never made it down the aisle in 2003 and broke up in 2004.
When Lopez ended her engagement to retired baseball player Alex Rodriguez in 2021, Affleck was ready. By 2022, Affleck proposed again, this time with a green diamond ring. Months later, the couple married quietly in Las Vegas.
It was reported that Affleck was renting a house in Brentwood since March. In June, Affleck moved his belongings out of the marital home while Lopez was traveling in Europe. Earlier this month, the couple officially placed the 30,000-square-foot mansion on the market for $68 million.
