Michael Jordan’s Steak House in Oak Brook, Illinois, is set to serve its final meals as the restaurant will shut down permanently on Dec. 21, reports ABC7 Chicago. The closure comes after a seven-year run since opening its doors in July 2017. It is located about 19 miles from Chicago.
The announcement, which shocked the local community, was made on the restaurant’s social media pages. “This was not an easy decision,” the message read, “as we’ve loved every moment serving you and being part of this community.”
Final Meal at Michael Jordan Eatery
Fans of the steakhouse will be able to enjoy one final dining experience before the Oak Brook location closes. As a special parting gift, members of the “Steak Hall of Fame” can take home their custom-engraved steak knives.
While the Oak Brook closure marks the end of an era for local patrons, Michael Jordan’s Steak House will continue operations at its flagship location inside the Intercontinental Hotel on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. Additional locations in Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, Ilani Casino in Washington, and Inspire Resort in South Korea also remain open.
The reason behind the Oak Brook restaurant’s closure has not been disclosed, reports ABC7 Chicago.
Michael Jordan’s Steak House is owned by the Cornerstone Restaurant Group, which manages and operates the brand. It is unclear what percentage of the brand Jordan, whose current net worth is estimated at $3.5 billion, owns. The first Michael Jordan’s Steak House location opened in 1993 in Chicago, although the brand itself was officially launched in 1998.
In addition to Michael Jordan’s Steak House, Jordan is associated with several other restaurant ventures, including MJ23 Sports Bar & Grill at the Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut and 1000 North restaurant in Florida.
