Philadelphia Eagles star Jalen Hurts is restricted from playing sports like golf under the terms of his five-year, $255 million contract extension signed in 2023. The deal, reported by ESPN, includes $179 million in guaranteed money and sets a record for average annual salary.
Can’t Tee Up
According to The Daily Mail, quarterback Jalen Hurts was with former President Barack Obama on a golf course, alongside teammate Saquon Barkley and Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, where he could only watch his colleagues play, as he was barred from participating.
During an October 30 press conference, Hurts responded to a question about his outing with Obama the previous day, October 29, at Merion Golf Club, Sports Illustrated reported.
The 26-year-old quarterback clarified his involvement, stating he only observed, with The Associated Press quoting him saying, “He’s like an uncle figure out there. President Obama. All-time leader. Great presence. I guess the word is, down to earth. I can only imagine that lifestyle and the different things that come with that. To see him out there, enjoying himself, talk a little trash, that was cool.”
Obama was rallying support in the swing state of Pennsylvania for Vice President Kamala Harris.
The no-golfing clause in Hurts’ $255 million contract extension is a protective measure to prevent injuries from non-football activities. According to Bleacher Report, this restriction isn’t explicitly outlined in the contract but is instead a verbal request from owner Lurie.
As Finurah previously reported, Hurts has secured an equity stake in the energy drink brand Accelerator and will promote the company through advertisements and events.
Although the financial details of the agreement were not disclosed, Hurts is thrilled to be collaborating with a brand that prioritizes the health of athletes and consumers.
Hurts, who earned his master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma, has also promoted products from well-known brands like Gillette, Frosted Flakes, and Lemon Perfect.
