Irving Is Being Sued

According to the lawsuit, Irving hired Elite Mind Solutions and therapist Natasha McCartney for a retreat in North Dakota from June 28 to July 2. McCartney says she has had a professional relationship with Irving since 2020. Irving, 32, reportedly told the company that about 50 to 60 attendees would participate, but the actual number was more around 150 people. Despite the unexpected increase in attendance, the company says it fulfilled all agreed-upon services, including therapeutic exercises and counseling sessions.

The retreat took a tragic turn when someone died during the event. McCartney in turn claims she provided crisis management and grief counseling to attendees, according to the complaint.

For the retreat services, the company invoiced Irving $390,710 — and he has yet to pay, states the complaint, according to The New York Post. The suit, filed Dec. 2 in New York, claims the NBA star breached their contract and wants payment of the outstanding amount along with interest and legal fees.

The Independent reported that McCartney “charged more than $100,000 for preparation, researching and designing custom meditation sessions, designing special workbooks, and putting together a planned ‘masterclass’ over the course of 22 days.”

The company’s invoice says McCartney led members of the Irving family through 30-minute mindfulness gatherings daily at $5,500 for each. It also lists a two-hour non-violent communication session for $25,000, three days worth of “intuitive life readings” for $9,000, and that an “ionic foot detox” provider was hired for $7,200.

McCartney’s attorney Michael Faragalla told The Independent, “After making direct contact with Kyrie Irving and his associates, Mr. Irving put it all off on his supporting cast.” Faragalla said that Irving had made no direct effort to resolve the issue before the lawsuit was filed, and negotiations with his legal and management team led only to “insulting offers.”

Irving, who has earned over $300 million during his NBA career and is earning a salary of $40 million for the 2024-2025 season, has not publicly commented on the lawsuit.

While Irving’s attorney has not yet issued a statement.
