Actress Jodie Turner-Smith is seeking financial support from her estranged husband, actor Joshua Jackson. The couple’s income and expenses, detailed in an official declaration, offer a clear look at their financial dynamics.
Inside a Celebrity Divorce
During the divorce proceedings, Turner-Smith’s monthly income and expenses, as well as Jackson’s, became public information, according to People Magazine, which cites court documents from December 23 in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Records obtained show that Turner-Smith makes about $87,500 monthly, but the “Dawson’s Creek” actor is said to be making $195,000.
Some might assume that a monthly income of nearly $90,000 is sufficient for a celebrity and her four-year-old daughter, but for Turner-Smith, it presents a financial challenge, as more than half of her earnings go toward expenses, according to People.
These expenditures include $40,000 for rent, $3,291 for entertainment, $6,000 for family support, $509 for child care, $1,800 for groceries, and $2,612 for clothing, according to Radar.
With the estimated total of $54,212 in monthly expenses, her $87,500 monthly income leaves her with just $33,288, not factoring in other emergencies or outside variables that could further impact her costs.
The “Queen & Slim” actress is seeking $8,543 monthly in child support and $28,641 monthly in spousal support, according to BuzzFeed.
Jackson, whose income is greater, likely has lower expenses, previously committed to supporting their daughter, whom he shares with Turner-Smith.
Turner-Smith began gaining recognition for her role as a siren on “True Blood” in 2013 and is still emerging in the industry.
In contrast, Jackson has been a respected figure in Hollywood since he started as a child star in 1991.
Currently, he maintains a strong presence in the acting world with three prominent roles: as Dr. Christopher Duntsch in “Dr. Death” (2021), Dan Gallagher in “Fatal Attraction” (2023), and Dr. Max Bankman in “Doctor Odyssey” (2024).
His annual income is said to be $2.3 million, Radar reported, with him slated for be in “Karate Kid: Legends” on May 30 as one of the main characters alongside Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio.
Turner-Smith has secured big roles on television since 2023 and is set to appear in two major upcoming movies, “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” and “Tron: Ares.”
“Josh promised to always support me and ensured me that I would not have to worry about financial security for our daughter if we ever separated because he said he understood how difficult life can be as a Black woman and a single mother,” Turner-Smith alleges in the documents, according to People.
The publication also reports, that “all she wants is to be able to purchase a home in Los Angeles and support her daughter.”
However, the British actress claims that Jackson has since gone back on that promise, prompting her to seek financial support through the courts.
For Turner-Smith, the pay disparity points the difficulties of being a single Black mother in Hollywood, where she has already spent more than $412,000 in legal fees — a cost she argues has been compounded by Jackson’s alleged unwillingness to negotiate.
Her request for $250,000 covers the legal expenses she incurred.
Turner-Smith and Jackson met in 2018, got engaged in 2019, married in 2020, and soon welcomed their daughter, Juno. The couple’s relationship reportedly ended due to irreconcilable differences in September 2023.
