Japanese investors, and potentially Western investors too, are reevaluating their relationship with Kanye West after he and his wife, who dropped her fur coat to reveal she was nearly nude, appeared at the 2025 Grammys.
On February 2, Ye and his wife, Bianca Censori, did a publicity stunt in which Censori wore a completely sheer dress under which she was naked. The move has reportedly outraged Japanese investors, putting $20 million in potential deals at risk.
Stripped Down Outfit
Ye is expected to perform twice at the Tokyo Dome in May 2025. The Tokyo Dome, a spot that has hosted some of the greatest artists since 1988, holds a capacity of 55,000 attendees.
But according to the Daily Mail, an undisclosed source says those plans are being challenged by people offended by the couple’s bizarre and concerning Grammy red carpet appearance.
“This was totally disrespectful to the Grammys,” one insider told the UK outlet. “To pull a stunt at what is essentially a fundraiser and in the context of what has been going on in L.A. is almost inconceivably stupid, crass and wrong.”
The #MeToo movement is still gaining traction in Japan, and Ye’s alleged dominance over Censori has sparked controversy among his Japanese fans.
“The investors in Japan who are backing the concerts are extremely upset by this. It is highly likely that they will pull the funding for the shows,” the source told The Daily Mail. This information has yet to be confirmed by other known sources.
“Japan is having a cultural awakening about women’s rights and the MeToo movement is really strong here. What he did is being seen as an act of coercive control which is utterly unacceptable. He has completely culturally misjudged Japan.”
The source added, “Kanye is just ******* up every opportunity that comes to him. The stunt was creepy beyond belief and has been greeted with horror in Japan.”
But it may not be only Japenese investors that aren’t happy with Ye. The distasteful stunt may have caused American investors to reconsider supporting Ye’s independent Yeezy brand, The New York Post reported.
As Finurah previously reported, Ye is no stranger to getting canceled by the mainstream. The rapper-turned-fashion designer had his Yeezy brand cut off from an Adidas partnership in 2022 due to his anti-Semitism, which lowered his net worth from about $2 billion to $400 million.
