Just days before All-NBA guard Luka Dončić was traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers over the weekend, he reportedly purchased a $15 million home in Dallas.
The 25-year-old Dončić had played for the Mavericks since he was selected with third overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft. He was surprisingly traded to the Lakers on Saturday evening. Dallas sent Dončić, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris to Los Angeles in exchange for Anthony Davis, Maxi Christie and the Lakers’ 2029 first-round draft pick. Despite being a formidable player for most of his career, Dončić has been plagued by several injuries and only played 22 games during the season. His last game was on Christmas Day because of a calf strain. The lack of playing time cost Dončić dearly — he was not selected to be on the NBA All-Star team.
What We Know About the Home
While very little is known about Dončić’s recent real estate purchase, former Mavs player Chandler Parsons said this week that popular Dallas guard “just bought a $15M house, just closed it, like, last week in Dallas.” Dončić currently owns a 5,225 square foot home in Dallas. Dončić purchased the property in 2020 for $2.7 million. The four-bedroom, four-and-a-half bathroom home sits on a .78 acre lot.
Dončić, who is originally from Slovenia, has an estimated net worth of $75 million. He began his career with Real Madrid in 2015 but by 2018 he was playing in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks and was named Rookie of the Year. Since then Dončić has been named five-time NBA All-Star and All-NBA First Team. Endorsements with companies such as NBA 2K, BioSteel, Jordan Brand and Panina have helped him earn over $200 million in his career.
A Shocking Trade
Dončić’s trade came as a shock to the player and others.
During a recent press conference, Dončić was asked by a reporter how he felt about the Maverick’s decision to trade him. Reportedly, General manager Nico Harrison initiated the trade, a move that angered other team members and Mavericks fans.
“That’s their decision, so, I have no comment on that,” Dončić said. “They made a decision, I don’t know why. That’s their decision, so I can’t do nothing about it.”
In a note to his fans, Dončić said, “Dallas is a special place and Mavs fans are special fans.”
On FanDuelTV’s “Run It Back,” Parsons added to his revelation about the house purchase by sharin his disdain concerning Dončić’s trade, adding that the star player cried when the news was reported.
‘I find it extremely disrespectful, I find it horrific bad business for you just to go and do this,” Parsons said. “And I’m also not buying that [head coach Jason] Kidd just didn’t know.”
Serial entrepreneur Mark Cuban, who is a minority owner of the Mavericks after selling his majority stake in late 2023, reportedly shared his sentiments in a text with Parsons. Parsons said that he wrote, “I’m so confused” and Cuban shared, “That makes two of us.”
