Stone’s estimated net worth stood at $3 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth, although this estimation was, per usual for Celebrity Net Worth, presented totally with corroborating evidence. This wealth was amassed through a long and successful career in music, spanning several decades, as well as her ventures in acting and business. The singer also had her hand in culinary delights. Under “Aunty Angie Kitchen,” Stone had her own dark roast coffee and hot sauce line.

Stolen Money?

In a video of a social media live done before her passing, Stone revealed concerns about her royalties, accusing Universal Music Group and well as some on her team of mishandling her earnings. The live was done on Dec. 26, 2024.

“People working on my behalf never even registered the songs all the songs that I’ve done. I’m only coming to find out they were not properly registered,” she reveals.

Songs need to be registered with a performing rights organizations to earn royalties. This includes registering with organizations like ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, APRA AMCOS, and Mechanical Licensing Collective.

“If you only knew how much money they have taken from me, how much they have stolen from me. Monies that I’m supposed to be should have been able to retire 20 years ago.”

She continued, “I soon found out that none of the biggest companies I was with, Universal Music … we begin to research things to check on my royalties and my statements and things of that nature, only to find out a lot of my publishing, a lot of my royalties, my mechanicals, they have all pretty much been stolen.”

Born Angela Laverne Brown in Columbia, South Carolina, Stone first made waves in the music scene in the late 1970s as a member of The Sequence, one of the first all-female Hip-Hop groups. The group’s hit “Funk You Up” became a trailblazing song in hip-hop history. After the group disbanded, Stone transitioned into a solo career that would solidify her as a leader in the neo-soul movement alongside artists like D’Angelo and Erykah Badu.

Her solo debut album, “Black Diamond” (1999), was a commercial success and featured the chart-topping single “No More Rain (In This Cloud).” The album helped establish her as a force in contemporary R&B. Stone continued to release notable albums, with “Mahogany Soul” (2001) and “The Art of Love & War” (2007), both earning critical acclaim and chart success.

In addition to her music career, Stone ventured into acting, appearing in films like “The Hot Chick,” “Pastor Brown,” and “Ride Along.” Her last film role was in the 2021 movie “Entanglement.”

Stone was also committed to advocacy and mentorship, founding the nonprofit Angel Stripes, which aimed to support artistic expression and community building.
