Deion Sanders admits that not every investment he’s made has been a winner. Recently, Sanders opened up about what he considers his worst investment: a yacht he named “Dos Uno.”

Buyer Beware

The Hall of Famer revealed that the yacht, currently docked in Puerto Rico, has been more of a burden than a luxury. Coach Prime acknowledged that while the idea of owning a yacht seemed appealing, the reality is that he rarely uses it. He admitted on Feb. 27 on the Reach the People Media podcast that it would have been far more practical to rent a yacht on the rare occasions he wanted to be on the water. Unlike his real estate investments, which have consistently appreciated in value, the yacht has turned into an expensive mistake.

“I haven’t made a lot of dumb purchases because I’ve always purchased land which has appreciated tenfold for me; it’s been really good,” he says. “But probably my dumbest purchase probably was a yacht…you’d be better of renting.”

It seems Sanders barely used the yacht. According to the Yachting Journal, Dos Uno was built in 2001. At a cost of reportedly $45 million, it features a hot tub, sauna, sleeping cabins, and a full kitchen.

Sanders’ investment portfolio largely consists of properties, including a 5,000-acre ranch in Texas and a 6,457-square-foot mansion in Longmont, Colorado. Previously, Sanders also owned a 42-acre farm in Mississippi, which he sold for $1.5 million after moving to Colorado.

With a net worth of $45 million, accumulated from his NFL and MLB careers, endorsements, and real estate, Sanders remains financially secure despite his occasional splurge. Still, “Dos Uno” serves as a reminder that even the most financially savvy individuals can make impractical purchases.
