When beloved Food Network chef Anne Burrell passed away on June 17 at the age of 55, she left behind not just memories, but an estimated $4 million legacy, according To Celebrity Net Worth.
Out of The Kitchen
Burrell reportedly died unexpectedly at home, reportedly from cardiac arrest.
Born in Cazenovia, New York, Burrell’s path to kitchen stardom wasn’t a straight road. She studied English in college before following her real passion: food. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in 1996 and studying in Italy, she returned to New York and cooked under legendary chef Lidia Bastianich at Felidia.
Burrell’s big TV break came in 2005 as Mario Batali’s energetic sous chef on “Iron Chef America.” But it was “Secrets of a Restaurant Chef” that made her a household name. The show ran for nine seasons, from 2008 to 2012. With her signature spiky blond hair and catchphrases like “brown food tastes good,” she made restaurant techniques easily adaptable for everyday cooks.
Her most iconic role was as host and mentor on “Worst Cooks in America.” The show began in 2010 and is still running. There, she turned kitchen disasters into believers, becoming part coach, part cheerleader, part lovable drill sergeant.
Financially, Burrell’s empire was modest by celebrity standards. Gordon Ramsay’s estimated net worth, for example, is $220 million, according to Ecole Ducasse. Rachael Ray‘s estimated net worth is $100 million, according to The Kitchn.
But Burrell was steadily building hers. Her two bestselling cookbooks, “Cook Like a Rock Star” and “Own Your Kitchen,” generated over $750,000 in royalties. She was reportedly paid roughly $30,000 per episode for “Worst Cooks,” and appeared in dozens of other Food Network shows. Burrell also earned steady income from teaching, brand consulting, and high-demand appearances.
In 2019, she purchased a Brooklyn loft for $1.53 million, which had grown in value to $2 million by 2025, according to Parade. Her final show, “House of Knives,” premiered just months before her passing.
Anne married Stuart Claxton in 2021.
