She Battled an Elderly Man for Her ‘Forever Home’—But Katy Perry Rented It to Chris Pratt Instead… And Now the Breakup Rumors Won’t Stop

Katy Perry was once expected to call a sprawling Montecito mansion home — but instead, she’s renting it out to actor Chris Pratt and his family.

The $11 million Santa Barbara estate, now reportedly worth over $30 million, has been at the center of a lengthy legal battle between Perry and Carl Westcott, an 85-year-old disabled veteran and retired businessman, according to reports.

What Happened to the Infamous Property

The property, described by Realtor.com as a “compound nestled in the Santa Ynez foothills,” boasts eight bedrooms, seven and a half bathrooms, a tennis court, two guesthouses, and a pool.

Westcott, who founded 1-800-Flowers and suffers from Huntington’s disease, agreed to sell the home to Perry and her fiancé, Orlando Bloom, in 2020.

But days after signing the contract, he attempted to rescind the deal, claiming he was mentally impaired due to heavy post-surgical medications, including hydrocodone, tramadol, and gabapentin.

Despite his condition, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Joseph Lipner ruled in November 2023 that there was insufficient evidence to void the sale and finalized Perry’s ownership in December 2023, according to Architectural Digest.

By spring 2024, she officially took possession of the property.

Perry bought the property in May 2020 for $11.25 million, and while Westcott was trying to back out of the sale, the Dark Horse singer got a second Montecito home for $14.2 million, Realtor reported.

The son of Westcott, Chart, has gone publicly to call Perry greedy, saying “It was shocking when it happened in the first place.”

“If an old man apologizes and says he made a mistake [about the house sale], and she’s a rich pop star who can buy any other house in the world, you’d think she would let the old man go on his way,” he added.

Adding fuel to the controversy, Perry later filed a $6 million lawsuit against Westcott for alleged back rent and property damage incurred during the drawn-out dispute.

The home, described by Perry in the past as the perfect place to raise her daughter, Daisy, with Bloom, is now being rented by Pratt for an undisclosed sum.

Rental prices in Montecito can reportedly reach up to $120,000 per month.

Pratt, along with his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, and their children, is staying in the mansion while their Brentwood home is under construction, according to the Daily Mail.

His temporary stay has also sparked speculation about Perry and Bloom’s relationship status. There have been various unconfirmed media pots of a split, yet it seems Perry still plans to live in the home after the short-term rental ends.
