While on tour in recently London, Drake gave fans a glimpse inside the freshly renovated interior of his $185 million private jet, Air Drake — a fully customized Boeing 767.
A New Look
The jet resembles a luxury hotel in the sky, complete with a master bedroom, three guest suites, a gaming table sponsored by Stake, a theater, and a main lounge. The lounge is accented with custom Vava (Virgil Abloh Vision Always) pillows, a tribute to the late designer Virgil Abloh, who also created the aircraft’s exterior design before his death in 2021.
In the caption of Drake’s Instagram post, the rapper, who performed in London in July 11-13, referred to Air Drake as a “CA$TLE IN THE SKY.”
Drake’s reveal of the new renovations coincides with the anticipated release of his upcoming album Iceman.
As Finurah previously reported, the Boeing 767 private plane seats around 30 people and includes three private suites, two living room areas, and a bathroom complete with a shower.
Hypebeast reports that the estimated renovations may have cost between $80 million to $100 million.
While the cost of the renovations wasn’t mentioned in the newly published Instagram video making the rounds on July 20, the Canadian rapper recalled the surreal moment he got the plane, saying Cargojet CEO Ajay Virmani promised him “the biggest jet in the game,” comparable to what the president flies on with Air Force One.
“When I first got my plane, I was in this hangar. It’s, like, probably one of the craziest moments of my life. I actually didn’t believe it until AJ told me, ‘I’m gonna get you the biggest jet in the game out of anybody, like, it’d be like you and the president, that’s it,'” Drake said.
The Boeing 767 was originally built as a freighter aircraft in 1996, but when Drake acquired it in 2019, it was through a no-money, exposure-based partnership with the Canadian cargo airline Cargojet.
Previously, Air Drake featured a pink luminous glow with gold and wood surfaces, a striped carpet, and beige and light purple velvet and leather furnishings. Drake opted to change this, creating a warmer and more contemporary interior design.
“It used to be old and pink,” Drake said. “We decided to make it, like, more luxurious, warmer.”
As Complex reported, in unreleased tracks discovered during his “100 Gigs” data dump, Drake referenced his private jet and revealed plans for a second aircraft called “Air Drake 2.”
