Mark Zuckerberg Spent $900K on a Watch Made By Hand. So Why the Sudden Fashion Upgrade?

Mark Zuckerberg is the owner of a Greubel Forsey Hand Made 1, a one-of-a-kind jeweled timepiece that took approximately 6,000 hours to create. Due to the immense craftsmanship required, it’s believed th founder of Meta is the only person in the world to own one.

More Than a Watch

According to the official Greubel Forsey website and The Guardian, the Hand Made 1 is almost entirely crafted using hand-operated tools. At least 95 percent of the components—including its intricate tourbillon and three-hand time display (hours, minutes, small seconds)—are manually assembled, machined, and decorated.

It has a white gold case with a diameter of 43.5 mm and a height, including the crystal, of 13.5 mm.

The watch is limited to 2-3 pieces per year and offers a 60-hour power reserve.

It contains 281 parts, operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, and has a water resistance of 3 ATM, equivalent to 30 meters or 100 feet.

The HAND MADE 2 was introduced in January 2025 a longer chronometric power reserve of 72 hours, compared to the 60 hours of the HAND MADE 1, offering extended functionality.

It has a more compact case diameter of 40.9 mm, down from 43.5 mm, and a reduced height (including crystal) of 12.80 mm, compared to 13.5 mm, for a sleeker profile. Additionally, it contains fewer parts, 270 versus 281, suggesting improved efficiency in design while preserving the intricate handcrafted quality.

Despite the improvements, Hand Made 2, max price being at $750,000, is more affordable than Hand Made 1, which had came out in May 2024.

It was in January 2025 when Zuckerberg was spotted with the timepiece when he posted a video directly on Facebook announcing Meta collaborating with the Trump admin to end third-party fact checking on its social media platforms in the U.S., Bloomberg reported.

The tech billionaire usually wore seemingly casual clothing, with the Swiss watch sticking out.

Many in the comment section were distracted by the nearly $1 million watch, as reported by The Guardian.

In recent years outlet such as business insider have taken a note of Zuckerberg‘s new fashion choices as he starts to get into luxury watches.

A much more simplistic Zuckerberg posted on his personal Instagram on Sept. 1, 2024, of him wearing a Patek Philippe Grand Complications In-Line Perpetual Calendar watch, retailed at about $150,000.

BI also reported that he wore a DB25 Starry Varius from the Swiss watch brand De Bethune — a watch that, depending on his customization, costs between $80K and $260K — was seen on his his Acquired podcast appearance on Sept. 10, 2024.
