A$AP Rocky’s $1.1M Neighbor Drama Hits the Courts

Rapper A$AP Rocky is facing a $1.1 million lawsuit from a neighbor who claims renovations inside the artist’s Manhattan condominium caused severe water damage to multiple units below his own.

The complaint, filed Oct. 30 in Manhattan Supreme Court by Chez Ni LLC, alleges that on Dec. 23, 2024, several hot water pipes “originating in and around” Rocky’s apartment burst, sending water “cascading” through the building. The incident allegedly destroyed portions of neighboring units, including personal property, furnishings and structural features.

Rocky, whose legal name is Rakim Mayers, purchased the property several years ago and had hired ADE Pro Painting to perform renovation work in December 2024, according to the filing. Chez Ni LLC, which owns one of the units directly below the musician’s, accuses Rocky, the contractor, and the building’s condominium board of negligence that resulted in extensive flooding and damage.

The complaint describes the flooding as “destructive” and claims the affected apartment became uninhabitable for a period of weeks and months while repairs were underway. The plaintiff alleges that in addition to property damage, they experienced “a loss of use and enjoyment” of the unit, forcing them to secure alternative accommodations at their own expense.

Court documents show the neighbor is seeking $900,000 in compensation for the damage to their home and belongings, as well as $200,000 to cover the cost of temporary housing and other out-of-pocket expenses. The filing also says the condominium board charged the plaintiff more than $42,000 to pay for a contractor to assess the destruction, remove damaged materials, and install dehumidifiers — costs the plaintiff argues should be reimbursed by Rocky or the condominium.

The lawsuit names multiple defendants: Mayers; ADE Pro Painting, the contractor responsible for the work; the condominium’s board; and Tyson Beem, listed as the beneficial owner of the unit on behalf of Mayers. As a beneficial owner, Beem is managing or holding the property on behalf of Mayers but Mayers is the true owner and the one financially responsible for the condo. This type of arrangement is common among celebrities who use representatives to maintain privacy or handle real estate transactions.

“As a result of this terrible incident, our client, as well as other residents and families in the building, were displaced from their homes beginning last Christmas Eve and for several weeks and months following,” attorney Jonathan Jeremias of Schwartz Sladkus Reich Greenberg Atlas LLP said in a statement provided to People. “Still, neither Mr. Mayers nor any of the parties have acknowledged fault and accepted responsibility for the damage they caused. We are deeply troubled by these failures and the lack of effort to make this situation right.”

The lawsuit seeks damages for repair and replacement of the affected property, reimbursement for housing expenses, and compensation for emotional distress and inconvenience related to the displacement.

A$AP Rocky, 37, is best known for hits such as “Praise the Lord (Da Shine)” and “L$D.” He has been a prominent figure in hip-hop since the early 2010s and is also known for his fashion collaborations and relationship with singer Rihanna. The pair share three children. His net worth is estimated to be $30 million.
