With Burruss’ estimated net worth being around $30 million and Tucker’s at about $400,000, the financial gap between the two has always been substantial So what happens next?

Hitmaking songwriter and singer Burruss, who was part of the group Xscape, began the marriage already a multi-hyphenate success. Her wealth was built on decades of music publishing income, hit songwriting credits, her longstanding role on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” and the expansion of her entrepreneurial portfolio. By the time she and Tucker married in 2014, she owned thriving brands, including Bedroom Kandi, retail boutiques, real estate holdings, and multiple entertainment ventures.

Tucker brought a solid career in television production to the marriage, along with experience that would later contribute to several of their joint businesses that includes restaurants, a production company, and a trucking business. The two have also backed several Broadway productions. But financially, the two entered the union on completely different tiers, something Burruss openly acknowledged as the driving force behind the prenuptial agreement that almost derailed their wedding.

The couple’s prenup was not a quiet, behind-closed-doors arrangement; it was televised and debated publicly. Tucker initially refused to sign, calling it unfair, and walked out of the wedding rehearsal. Burruss, however, insisted the document was non-negotiable. In a 2014 interview, she made her reasoning clear, citing a pattern of celebrity divorces where wealthier spouses were taken to the cleaners financially.

“You don’t get to see it a lot where a woman is financially better off than the husband,” she explained. “You have to protect yourself.”

According to reporting at the time, the prenup included three major points: No spousal support under any circumstances; all assets Burruss acquired before the marriage — her home, her businesses, her royalties — remain solely hers; and if the couple separated, Tucker was required to vacate the home within 30 days.

The clause requiring Tucker to leave the home became one of the biggest points of contention, causing an argument that nearly halted the wedding. Tucker also reportedly expressed concern over a stipulation that he would receive nothing if Burruss passed away while they were married. Ultimately, he signed the document just before the ceremony.

Although the prenup protected Burruss’ pre-existing businesses. Their joint ventures will be part of the marital estate.

Her home, however, will not be part of the divorce. Burruss has said for years that the property was bought before her marriage and is meant to be inherited by her children. Also, Burruss’ income from RHOA, residuals from her songwriting catalog, franchise income from Bedroom Kandi, and all profits from businesses she launched before 2014 remain separate.

  3. Spe Cial says:

A lot of people are saying good for Kandi but the truth is that Todd has on film that he signed that pre-nup under duress. She brought it to him late and then gave him a ultimatum of sign the document or there would be no wedding tomorrow. He argued that his counsel did not have time to review it and disagreed with it and stated it was unfair. If anyone has a chance to have the entire pre-nup thrown out completely it’s Todd. He has all he needs to show it was not right.

  4. Scooter says:

Duress? Was he handcuffed? life in danger? nope. He knew the terms. He could have talked to an attorney. He chose not to do so. Could have postponed the wedding. Not duress, decisions.
