Kamala Harris Levels Up With $8M Malibu Mansion

Kamala Harris is adding a new chapter to her California real estate story with a move that seems equal parts personal and well-timed. Days before she celebrated Founders Day for her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, news dropped about the former vice president and her husband, Doug Emhoff, purchasing a Point Dume home in Malibu for just over $8 million, upgrading their Los Angeles footprint while leaning into one of the state’s most private and enduring luxury enclaves.

New Move

The couple reportedly paid about $8.15 million for the four-bedroom, six-bathroom residence, which spans roughly 4,000 square feet and sits on approximately three-quarters of an acre. Built in 1979, the home prioritizes warmth and livability over showiness, featuring wood-beamed ceilings, generous natural light, a gas fireplace, and a layout that blurs the line between indoors and out.

In Malibu, where new builds are increasingly rare and tightly regulated, homes like this often appeal to buyers seeking character, land, and longevity over flash.

According to the New York Post, Point Dume itself offers a kind of quiet luxury that has long set it apart. Perched on a 63-acre promontory overlooking Little Dume Beach, the neighborhood is known for its resident-only key access to one of California’s most prized surf breaks. That exclusivity, paired with oversized lots and limited turnover, has helped sustain demand even during broader market swings.

While other parts of Malibu continue to recover from the lasting effects of the 2018 Woolsey Fire and the 2025 Palisades Fire, Point Dume has remained comparatively steady. Its geography, lower housing density, and distance from canyon developments have helped preserve value, making it especially attractive to buyers operating at the top end of the market who prioritize stability alongside scenery.

Over the years, Point Dume has drawn a familiar mix of Hollywood names, including Sean Penn, Julia Roberts, and Gerard Butler.

More recently, the neighborhood has also attracted technology and investment leaders, with reported buyers such as venture capitalist Marc Andreessen, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, and Emerson Collective president Laurene Powell Jobs. The result is a low-profile but influential community where entertainment, technology, and civic leadership comfortably coexist.

The Malibu purchase builds on Harris and Emhoff’s existing real estate foundation.

Emhoff bought their Brentwood home in 2012 for $2.7 million, two years before they married. The four-bedroom, 3,500-square-foot property is now estimated to be worth around $5 million and has reportedly served as both a frequent retreat and a setting for political fundraising. What comes next for that home has not been publicly shared.

Harris’ broader property history reflects a steady progression alongside her public career.

Elle DÉCOR reports that in 2004, she purchased a loft in San Francisco’s SoMa district for $489,000 as she rose through the city’s legal ranks, later selling it in 2021 for $799,000. She also owned a two-bedroom condominium near Dupont Circle in Washington, D.C., buying it for $1.175 million and selling it for $1.85 million after moving into the vice president’s official residence at Number One Observatory Circle.

Together, these transactions contribute to the couple’s estimated net worth of approximately $14 million, built through real estate appreciation, legal work, book royalties, and years of public service. The Point Dume home represents a significant addition, but one that aligns with long-standing patterns among high-net-worth buyers who favor supply-constrained coastal markets for both lifestyle and long-term value.
