LeBron James’ former Serbian teammate still drives a nearly 20-year-old car because the GOAT sold it to him.
Back in 2007, Aleksandar “Sasha” Pavlović and James were teammates on the Cleveland Cavaliers and played in the NBA Finals — the first Finals appearance in franchise history.
Aleksandar “Sasha” Pavlović’s Still Driving
There must have been a strong bond between the two young players, because James sold his fellow Cav his BMW 760Li.
The story resurfaced recently when ESPN’s Brian Windhorst visited Belgrade in November 2025 and later shared it on The Hoop Collective podcast.
“Twenty years ago, Sasha bought one of LeBron’s cars. It’s a BMW 7 Series — it’s well known in Belgrade,” Windhorst said on “The Hoop Collective” podcast. “He said when he shipped the car over there, people found out it was coming and went to meet it at the port, or I don’t know how it got there.”
“But the crazy thing is, he’s still driving it. He drove it to the restaurant, and in something you may only see in Serbia and I say this with love, guys, he still has Ohio plates on it,” he added.
The humorous, heartfelt anecdote points out what the billionaire NBA superstar still means to his former colleague.
At the time, Sasha’s hand-me-down car was barely broken in — just used.
It was a powerhouse for its era, featuring a 6.0-liter V12 engine producing 438 horsepower and 444 lb-ft of torque, sprinting from 0–60 mph in 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 150 mph.
Equipped with Bluetooth, navigation, heated leather seats, and a DVD system, the long-wheelbase sedan stretched 203.9 inches and offered 111 cubic feet of passenger space with seating for five.
In 2007, it was peak luxury, with an original MSRP hovering around $122,000.
Today, according to Kelley Blue Book, the car’s estimated resale value sits between $6,300 and $8,400.
Regardless of how laughable its features may seem by modern standards, the car’s true value has yet to be determined. After all, the entire vehicle is technically a 5,000-pound piece of sports memorabilia.
According to Basketball Network, the sedan is still in working condition, with Sasha regularly driving it around his village in Belgrade. The 2007 BMW 760Li has even earned a reputation as a local celebrity.
In Europe, the 2007 BMW 760Li reportedly carries a higher resale value, ranging between $9,000 and $33,000, depending on condition and mileage, Bassketball Network reported, noting countries like Germany.
