For decades, breaking into the live music business has often depended on who you know. Usher is now trying to change that through his nonprofit, Usher’s New Look.

Get Those Applications In
The Grammy-winning superstar is launching a paid internship program that will place 10 young adults directly on his upcoming co-headlining stadium tour with Chris Brown, giving them hands-on experience in one of the most profitable sectors of the entertainment industry.
The initiative, created through Usher’s New Look in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Detroit, is designed to help young people gain access to careers in touring, production, wardrobe, multimedia, and live operations. Applications are open to residents in Atlanta and Detroit between the ages of 18 and 24.
Interns selected for the program will complete several weeks of training before joining the tour, which begins in Denver and ends in New Jersey. Participants will also take part in workshops and behind-the-scenes learning opportunities focused on the business side of live entertainment, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The program arrives during one of the strongest business stretches of Usher’s career.
The singer recently completed a Las Vegas residency run that reportedly grossed more than $114 million across 100 performances at Caesars Palace and Park MGM, according to Billboard and Rolling Stone estimates. His Park MGM residency alone reportedly generated nearly $96 million.
Usher also headlined the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show shortly after releasing a new album. His estimated net worth is believed to range between $180 million and $200 million.
Now, Usher is taking that momentum into what could become one of the summer’s largest R&B tours alongside Chris Brown.
Brown, whose estimated net worth is around $50 million, recently made headlines during his “Breezy Bowl XX” tour after partnering with TikTok creator Zachery Dereniowski to surprise a teenage fan with $10,000 and a new car during a concert stop.
For Usher, however, the internship initiative is focused on long-term career development.
Executives involved in the program say the live touring industry remains difficult to access without industry relationships. Shawn Wilson, president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Detroit, described touring as a “multi-billion dollar global business” where opportunities often remain limited to people with inside connections.
Usher said the goal is to help close that gap.
“At Usher’s New Look, we’ve always believed talent is everywhere, but access is not,” he said in a statement announcing the initiative, OkayPlayer reported.
