Branching Out

Ayesha Curry’s Sweet July Cafe opened earlier this month at the hotel, according to Axios. The breakfast-and-lunch cafe features dishes inspired in part by her Caribbean heritage.

Sweet July Cafe is privately held and does not disclose annual revenue. However, outside estimates have valued the broader Sweet July retail business at approximately $3.7 million in annual revenue, while individual locations have been estimated to generate six figures a year, Inc. reported.

Sweet July Cafe closed its flagship location in Oakland, California, in February 2025 due to ongoing safety concerns, following a burglary in 2022.

The menu includes coconut chia seed pudding, overnight oats, a strawberry shortcake croissant, a crème brûlée Danish and a bananas foster cinnamon roll. Lunch offerings include warm pita sandwiches inspired by Jamaican coco bread, smash burgers, Jamaican beef patties and salads. The cafe also serves desserts, coffee, matcha and smoothies.

The opening reflects the Currys’ ties to Charlotte, where they were raised and met in high school, according to People. Ayesha Curry, a cookbook author and former Food Network host, previously opened a Sweet July Cafe in Santa Monica, California, in May, Axios reported.

The Charlotte cafe follows Stephen Curry’s entry into the hospitality industry. In 2025, he launched The Eighth Rule, a bourbon-focused bar in San Francisco, in partnership with Michael Mina and The Mina Group. The concept marked Curry’s first hospitality venture.

The Eighth Rule is now set to expand to Charlotte with a second location at The Ritz-Carlton.

“The Eighth Rule has always been about creating an experience that brings people together for community and conversation, while enjoying elevated food and drink offerings,” Stephen Curry said in a statement cited by Bleacher Report. “Expanding to Charlotte is especially exciting because it’s a city that not only holds a special place in mine and my family’s heart, but it’s filled with incredible energy and culture.”

A third concept, Bourbon Steak, also is planned for the hotel, according to Bleacher Report.

Both restaurant concepts will open in partnership with chef Michael Mina.

Stephen Curry is also becoming the first active NBA player ever to receive his own dedicated exhibit at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. The immersive exhibit, “Stephen Curry: Beyond the Arc,” opens July 24, in Springfield, Massachusetts. It covers his four NBA championships, two MVP awards, and record-setting 3-point shooting as well as his business ventures, philanthropy and family life.

Ayesha Curry has an estimated net worth of $50 million while Stephen Curry has an estimated net worth of $240 million.
