The acquisition marks the end of Moët Hennessy‘s involvement and transforms SirDavis into a fully independent, woman-, family-, and Black-owned spirits company.

The brand was named after Beyoncé’s paternal great-grandfather, Davis Hogue, a farmer and moonshiner during Prohibition. The Grammy-winning superstar has said the spirit pays tribute to her family’s Southern roots and honors a legacy that inspired her long before she became a global superstar.

SirDavis has reportedly generated an estimated $30 million to $40 million in sales since launching in 2024, with more than 30,000 cases sold and an estimated brand value of $140 million, according to Global Drinks Intel.

The buyout also closes the chapter on what was a groundbreaking venture for Moët Hennessy. SirDavis was the luxury company’s first spirits brand built from the ground up in the United States rather than acquired through an existing distillery or label.

The billionaire entertainer worked alongside renowned whisky maker Dr. Bill Lumsden, the longtime whisky creator behind Glenmorangie and Ardbeg, and head blender Cameron George to develop the spirit.

Unlike many American whiskeys — “whisky,” without the “e,” formally is designated for only Canadian whisky, Japanese whisky, and Scotch whisky — SirDavis skips corn entirely. The bottle features a mash bill of 51% rye and 49% malted barley and is bottled at 44% alcohol by volume. SirDavis is distilled by MGP Ingredients in Indiana before being finished, blended and bottled in Beyoncé’s home state of Texas, Complex reported.

The premium spirit retails for about $89 a bottle.

The bottle is also distinctive, as it features ribbed glass and a gold horse medallion.

The buyout further expands Beyoncé’s business empire, which already includes ventures in music, fashion, film, and consumer products.
