‘I Can’t Wait to Bring this Burger to America’: Bun B Aims to Open Trill Burgers Restaurant After Being Crowned Best Burger In the Country

The best burger around? According to “Good Morning America,” it is hip-hop artist Bun B’s Trill Burgers.

Houston-based Trill Burgers rose up the casual food culinary ranks fast — and it doesn’t even have a physical location yet. The brand launched in August 2021 through a partnership between Bun B and California-based culinary entrepreneur Andy Nguyen.

Trill Burgers got popular with their nationwide popups where they would sell their version of a smash burger — two patties of Texas-raised 44 Farms beef, cheese, pickles, and its secret Trill sauce on a Martin’s potato bun.

America’s Best Burger

On July 29, “Good Morning America” judges crowned Trill Burgers the winners of the show’s annual burger competition. Trill Burgers bested Philadelphia’s Lucky’s Last Chance, the Companion in Atlanta, and Babe’s Meat & Counter of Miami, according to Eater Houston,

“It’s so surreal that it doesn’t make sense to be in Times Square having won the best burger in America live on ‘Good Morning America,’” Bun B said following his win. “It’s not even in the realm of things that we would have imagined for this brand. We just wanted to put in hard work and be justified for what we did, and today we got the ultimate validation. I can’t wait to bring this burger to America.”

Trill Burger Expansion

Trill Burgers now aims to open a brick-and-mortar site, it reports on its website. Bun B seems primed to take on the burger restaurant business, one that raked in approximately $108.51 billion in 2020.

This is sort of a second career for Bun B, who is best known as half of the hip-hop duo UGK (UnderGround Kingz). He launched the group with Pimp C, and they dropped their successful debut album, “Too Hard to Swallow,” in 1992 “Super Tight” followed in 1994 and in 1996 came their third release, “Ridin’ Dirty,” which peaked on the Billboard 200 chart peaking at #15.

Today, Bun B, who also lectures at Rice University on Hip-Hop and Religion, has an estimated net worth of $4 million.

The Popups Continue

Now Bun B and Nguyen are getting back to what made Trill Burgers famous. The pair has planned popups in Houston– at 8th Wonder Brewery on August 14 and Houston City Hall on August 28. As usual, Trill Burgers expects its “notorious” long lines.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Trill Burgers will serve its regular menu: the OG burger, a version with caramelized onions, a vegan smashburger, and seasoned crinkle fries. It will be first-come, first-served.
