Days after a judge dismissed a $20 million lawsuit alleging Grammy Award-winner Chris Brown drugged and raped a woman, the star’s legal team is asking another multiple million dollar complaint be dropped.
Attorneys for the “Loyal” singer have filed new documents with a Los Angeles court, asking a judge to reject the $71 million lawsuit submitted by his former housekeeper, Patricia Avila, on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, that alleges negligence and deception surrounding her sister, Maria Avila, being mauled by his Caucasian shepherd dog named Hades on his property on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020.
Patricia wants a court to order Brown to pay damages to satisfy Maria’s medical expenses and to address her emotional distress.
In the lawsuit, according to NBC News, Patricia said she and Maria were working in his Citrus Ridge Drive home in the L.A. neighborhood of Tarzana, putting out the garbage when “a very large brown dog comes out of nowhere and viciously and brutally mauls, bites and attacks” Maria.
Her lawyer, Nancy Doumanian, wrote in the claim, “The dog begins savagely biting her face, her arms and other parts of her person and body, literally tearing out and ripping off large chunks of her skin from her face and her arms.”
Patricia said Maria was “barely able to see.” After the attack. However, Maria did see Brown approach the area as she lay on the floor in a pool of her own blood.
The claim says he talked on his cell and told his team to come to get the dog and move him to a different location.
Patrica said the police soon came and they spoke with the star.
To the authorities, Brown admitted he owned the canine but said he didn’t know about the attack.
Before the attack, Patricia said, the dog was “allowed to roam loose and free around the premises” without supervision.
RadarOnline has obtained documents filed by Brown’s lawyers laying out the circumstances behind the attack. Brown says Maria “provoked” the animal and had previously treated him cruelly, and the dog was responding to the maltreatment.
The documents state the woman “voluntarily teased, abused, and mistreated the dog and thereby provoked the attack,” and did not exercise ordinary care on the day of the attack.
In 2021, the lawyers stated, Maria “invited the injuries now complained of and assumed the risk of them with full knowledge of the magnitude of that risk, in that she knew her foregoing conduct might cause the dog to attack her, and seriously injure her, both of which events are alleged to have occurred.”
The chart-topper is fighting to get these charges dismissed. Should Patricia be allowed a trial by jury and wins, she could possibly bankrupt Brown.
According to sources, his estimated net worth is between $50 million and $60 million. Recently, a portion of that goes to dispute multiple lawsuits ranging from sexual assault to breach of contract.
On July 13, a businesswoman in Texas named LaJuan Bailey announced that she was suing the vocalist, after he did not perform a charity event to benefit victims of Hurricanes Ida and Nicholas on Saturday, March 19.
She alleges she paid him a $1.1 million advance and wants the cash returned. She also says she wants to be awarded damages to her enterprise and personal name based on the last-minute cancellation.
Brown states the woman forfeited the money because she did not fulfill the contract stipulations agreed to, according to TMZ. He alleges he also tried to give her a 6-figure donation for the cause, but she was not satisfied with that resolution.
In August 2022, she filed a restraining order to prevent Chris from performing in a concert on Wednesday, Aug. 18, at the Toyota Center in Houston (the same venue her concert was supposed to be in) and for a judge to make him tell her why he canceled her show.
The judge threw this motion out, allowing the show to go on.
