Rappers these days are turning a profit from products other than their music; in fact, some of the items for sale have nothing to do with hip hop.
Many hip-hop artists are spinning once-banned items, such as marijuana, into side hustle currency.
Cannabis Capitalism
Wiz Khalifa, with a reported net worth of about $70 million, and Curren$y, whose net worth has been estimated at $3 million, have entered the cannabis industry. While both have promoted the use in their songs over the past decade, now it is all business for them
With Khalifa Kush, the Pittsburgh based rapper’s personally tailored weed is being sold throughout the West and Mid-West.
Curren$y, on the other hand, has his Andretti OG strain.
DJ Khaled, net worth $75 million, holds the keys to several cannabis-related businesses, including his BLESSWELL, a new CBD-infused men’s grooming line.
Fast-food Fortunes
Rick Ross has been growing his net worth $45 million through an array of ventures, music, his livestock and fast food ventures. He not only owns both a farm on his massive Georgia property, but also nearly 30 Wingstop fast food franchises under his family business, Boss Wings Enterprises LLC.
Singer Chris Brown and rapper Drake are in the fast food industry, too.
Brown, net worth $50 million, reportedly has 14 Burger King franchises (although this has yet to be substantiated). Drake, who is worth an estimated $250 million, is reported to have invested into a Chicago chicken chain called Dave’s Hot Chicken.
Cashing in on OnlyFans
Some might be surprised to find rappers on the adult content site OnlyFans, but they are there, and they are banking dollars for risque pics of themselves.
Safaree Samuels is an emerging star on OnlyFans.
Samuels, who has a net worth of $3 million, makes millions selling explicit content on OnlyFans. According to a recent report from Statista, the “Love & Hip Hop” star brings home a whopping $1.91 million a month on the platform.
On average OnlyFans users make about $150 per month; top earners can pull between $5,000 and $100,000 every month and celebrities rake in even more.
Samuels, 41, initially opened an OnlyFans account in 2020 with his ex-wife Erica Mena. The couple made almost $100,000 per month from the beginning, and they earning continued to go up when they began to charg $16 per month to access their content. Then, Samuels set up his own account.
During the pandemic, celebrities such as Black Chyna and Cardi B have used the platform to generate additional income.
