Bishop T.D. Jakes is one of the most successful businessmen in the Black Christian church and one of the richest pastors in the world. His ministry connected faith, entertainment, and commerce in such a way that he yields a personal estimated net worth of $20 million to $60 million. His main Potter’s House church in Dallas, Texas, outside of T.D. Jakes’ multiple businesses, is the 25th largest church in the nation and welcomes 16,140 weekly visitors in person, according to CBS News.

Jakes Roberts Speaks on Black Church and Mental Illness

The news of the sale comes days after Jakes Roberts made a statement apologizing for the Black church and the church hurt that has come from messages espoused from its pulpits and taught from the pew about mental illness.

“I think that it would be remiss of us to not acknowledge that there have been moments within the Black church where you were not allowed to bring the truth of who you are into the space,” she said at Charlamagne Tha God’s Mental Health Expo. “Whether you’re like me and you broke some of the church rules or you just became a disgrace to the dignity of what it means to be a Christian through the lens of religion and the religion and the lens of the church, I think that we have to take a moment and at least acknowledge and perhaps for some of you invite you to look beyond God being hailed in the hands of man and maybe challenge you to consider that though man may have dropped you or mishandled you or deformed you in an effort to mold you that that was not a reflection of God’s heart towards you.

“I don’t know how much it counts,” Jakes Roberts continued. “But I will say that I apologize as a faith leader for the moments where you were told to just pray it away, for the moments where you were told that you’re never going to be one of the ‘good girls’ or the ‘good guys’ or you’re always going to be damaged. I apologize that you received those messages.”

She also said, “If you have to bypass the church to get to God … I get it.”
