Forget the Awards, the Men of Music Flashed Million-Dollar Watches at the Grammys. Here’s Who Wore What.

Besides noting who won what award at the Grammys, many most often pay attention to what the women celebrities are wearing. But this year, several of the male stars pulled out their high-end timepieces — and it didn’t go unnoticed.

A Timeless Investment?

According to Tim Stracke, the founder of Chrono24, there are the “glorious three” brands that are always in demand for resale — Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Audemars Piguet. Some experts add Richard Mille to that list.

According to global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company, pre-owned watch sales hit $18 billion in 2019 and could surpass $30 billion by 2025.

Overall, the luxury watches and jewelry market experienced an increase to nearly $57.3 billion in revenue in 2021. According to the Statista Consumer Market Outlook, the market will generate an estimated revenue of $69.4 billion by 2025.

Here’s what the men of music wore on their wrists at the Grammys.

The three-time Grammys host not only had a wardrobe change during the broadcast, but he also had a watch change. He wore at least two watches, The Robb Report reported. He flashed a diamond-set Patek Philippe Nautilus, which has a resale value of at least $320,000and an Audemars Piguet perpetual calendar. Chron24 is reselling a Audemars Piguet perpetual calendar for an asking price of $293,000.

When he walked the red carpet, Noah wore a rare 18-karat rose gold Patek Philippe Nautilus. The timepiece features baguette diamonds set around the bezel. According to the Robb Report, Noah purchased the luxury watch at high-end Manhattan jeweler Wempe.

Jay-Z

Jay-Z wore a Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime. The watch cost Jay-Z a whopping $2.2 million. Considered Patek Philippe’s most complex wristwatch, the minute repeater timepiece — the watch has mechanical gongs that ring on the hour and fractions of the hour — has two dials, both crafted from solid 18K gold plates. According to the company’s website, when the crown points to the right, the wearer sees the dial that shows the time of day. When the crown points to the left, a completely different dial displays the perpetual calendar side.

Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar went for the tried-and-true Rolex. His choice was a Rolex Oyster Perpetual with a turquoise dial. A new one is about $34,000.

Pharrell Williams, the “Happy” singer, wore the playful RM 88 Automatic Winding Tourbillon Smiley. It actually has a smiley face on the dial. The cheerful Richard Mille wrist piece lists for $1.2 million and there are reportedly just 50 of them. The watch also features a cactus, a pineapple, cocktail glass and other colorful doodads.

Swizz Beatz

Urwerk UR-120

Swizz Beatz is a known collector of timepieces. At the awards, he wore a unique Urwerk UR-120 (aka “Spock”) timepiece. The futuristic watch, which retails for about $150,000 new, pays homage to Star Trek’s Spock and his Vulcan heritage. The UR-120 display features the iconic Vulcan salute with a split display that resembles the V-shaped hand gesture that accompanies the saying “Live long and prosper.” The watch’s titanium case features a central carousel with three planetary gears, each bearing a satellite. As the gears move, the satellite splits into a V, creating the Vulcan salute.
