Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry has taken on a new role, one outside of Hollywood. Pendulum Therapeutics, a metabolic health and biotech company, has tapped Berry as its chief communications officer.
She also has an ownership stake, but precise details on this have yet to be disclosed.
The company reportedly has a revenue of $15.3 million annually.
Pendulum Therapeutics Partnership
Pendulum is a biotechnology company that claims to improve health through products targeting the microbiomes. The microbiome is the collection of all microbes, such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses that naturally live on and in our bodies. They offer products to help support gut health and healthy blood sugar management.
In 2020, the San Francisco Bay Area company created its flagship product, Pendulum Glucose Control, to lower blood sugar spikes and reduce A1C levels.
Berry has been using the products for more than a year.
Berry has said she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 22. But she stirred up controversy when she claimed to have “cured” herself by adopting a keto diet.
Alongside the brand’s cofounder and CEO, Dr. Colleen Cutcliffe, Berry’s main job is to advise on products and support the brand’s mission.
“When Halle and I met, we instantly connected on our shared passion to help others achieve their personal health goals,” said Cutcliffe. “She is aligned with our mission to empower people to transform their gut and metabolic health with clinically proven products and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have her on board. In an industry rife with fly-by-night wellness enthusiasts, we both sensed one another’s authenticity from the onset and knew this partnership would promote substantive health improvement for the masses.”
Created in 2013, by Cutcliffe, James H. Bullard, and John S. Eid, and a team of scientists with an understanding of microbiology, biochemistry, computational, and clinical expertise, Pendulum Therapeutics has raised $111 million from a variety of ventures, such as Meritech Capital, Sequoia Capital, True Ventures, Khosla Ventures, AME Cloud Ventures, and Mayo Clinic, Crunchbase reported.
In 2021, the company received a $54 million Series C investment.
Berry’s Wellness Mission
Berry’s own wellness site, Rē-spin, sells Pendulum Therapeutics’ products.
According to Berry her and the company’s mission are aligned.
“Your gut and microbiome are so important to the rest of your overall health. It’s all connected. When I started using Pendulum, I immediately felt the difference in both my body and mind and I have been using it every day since,” Berry said in a statement.
She added, “I am beyond excited to join the brilliant and thoughtful Pendulum team. We all know how tough it can be to break through the noise and find the healthy practices that truly work best for you and your body. My hope is that in this new role, I can help others discover this incredible product and begin their own personal journeys towards a more holistic and healthy life.”
