Attorneys who handled the divorce from NBA Championship player Matt Barnes for reality star Gloria Govan have a new strategy to get her to pay a six-figure bill she reportedly currently owes them.
The law firm Brot, Gross & Fishbein has filed paperwork asking for a court to order Govan to present bank statements to prove her ability to pay the approximately $200,000 default judgment leveled against her, RadarOnline.com reports.
The firm was hired by the Oakland native to negotiate the terms of the very nasty and contentious divorce in 2016.
One of the major accomplishments was negotiating child and spousal support for Govan’s household.
Brot, Gross & Fishbein Negotiates Child Support
On behalf of the “Basketball Wives” star, attorneys reportedly secured child support payments of $10,000 per son per month until the young men are 18 and $133,000 in back child support for the former couple’s two sons.
Two years later, in 2018, Barnes was able to have that $20,000 monthly reduced to $7,500 per month.
The lawyers negotiated Govan an award of $20,000 per month in spousal support from January 2016 to December 2016, totaling $240,000, according to TMZ.
Barnes and Govan continue to fight about support years later.
For their services, Brot, Gross & Fishbein says their office has not been paid.
Strategy to Get Invoices Paid
The firm filed and won a complaint against Govan for her unpaid bill. The VH1 star, who appeared on the network’s hit show from 2010 to 2016, did not show up in court, despite being served court papers.
The Los Angeles Superior Court granted the firm a default judgment of $197,774.62 to compensate them for the work they did on Govan’s behalf.
Despite having the court order, Govan, whose net worth according to Celebrity Net Worth is $5 million, is still delinquent on her payment.
New court documents request that Govan’s financial portfolio, including bank statements and property, be brought to a hearing, which the firm would like to be set on June 28. With a review of her assets, the lawyers look to determine the best way to collect on money Govan the firm.
A judge is currently reviewing the request.
Should the judge on the case set the hearing for the proposed date, and the reality star miss court, she could be arrested.
The Relationship Gone Bad
Barnes, one of the hosts of the “All the Smoke” podcast, retired from the NBA in 2017, after 14 years of playing professional ball.
The athlete entered a relationship with Govan in 2006, and the couple had twin boys in 2008. The two married in 2013 and separated in 2015, the year she enlisted the services of Brot, Gross & Fishbein.
Govan is currently married to Barnes’ former Los Angeles Lakers teammate Derek Fisher, who also is a retired NBA player. He has an estimated net worth of $45 million.
