NBA player Ja Morant’s 25-game suspension without pay will cost the promising point guard more than $7 million.
According to ABC News, Morant, 23, will lose more than $300,000 per game, or approximately $7.5 million total in his latest suspension, which will start next season.
As previously reported by Finurah, Morant, a sensational Memphis Grizzlies shooting guard, has now received two gun-related suspensions in the NBA, which is accusing of violating his contract with the league.
Benched
On May 13, Morant was captured on Instagram Live flashing what appeared to be a handgun while driving with a friend.
Just two months earlier, in March, the NBA suspended Morant without pay for eight games after a video surfaced of him brandishing a firearm at a Denver nightclub.
ESPN’s Bobby Marks reported that Morant lost $668,659 for the first gun offense.
His latest suspension equals about 30 percent of the season’s games.
“Ja Morant’s decision to once again wield a firearm on social media is alarming and disconcerting given his similar conduct in March for which he was already suspended eight games,” NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a recent statement. “The potential for other young people to emulate Ja’s conduct is particularly concerning. Under these circumstances, we believe a suspension of 25 games is appropriate and makes clear that engaging in reckless and irresponsible behavior with guns will not be tolerated.”
Morant Takes Money Hit
During the season 2023-24, he was set to make $33.5 million with his five-year rookie maximum extension, but his second suspension will mean he’ll make no more than $25.9 million.
Morant signed a hefty deal with shoe giant Nike even before the Grizzlies drafted him. His multi-year Nike deal reportedly is worth $12 million.
He also has endorsement deals with Wendy’s, Bodyarmor, Uber Eats, PSD, and Hyperice. His deal with Powerade was killed after his first gun incident.
