Singer, songwriter, and producer Ne-Yo has been in and out of court as the result of issues ranging from IRS tax liens to a divorce settlement.
Ne-Yo, who has an estimated net worth of $9 million, seems to have some costly court battles ahead.
A History of Tax Issues
Radar Online reports the IRS claims that Ne-Yo owes an estimated $3,166,811.68 for 2020 and has a federal tax lien against him.
This is not the first time that Ne-Yo has been hit with a bill for unpaid taxes. In 2015, it was reported that the singer had almost $12,000 in unpaid property taxes on an Atlanta home that he shared with his ex-girlfriend Monyetta Shaw. Ne-Yo broke up with Shaw in 2015, and they share two children.
A Bitter Divorce
Ne-Yo finalized his divorce from ex-wife Crystal Renay Smith in January. Smith filed for divorce in August 2022 amidst allegations of adultery.
As part of their divorce settlement Ne-Yo will maintain ownership of three out of his four homes. He was also awarded a 2022 Bentley.
Smith was paid a $1.6 million lump sum and the deed to one of Ne-Yo’s properties. She was also awarded $20,000 to relocate and another $150,000 to purchase a new car. They agreed to joint custody of their three children, while Smith will receive $12,000 per month in child support.
On top of this, Smith will get $3,000 in monthly alimony payments for the next three years.
It was a bitter divorce battle. At one point, Ne-Yo accused Smith of launching a smear campaign against him. As Finurah previously reported, he requested the divorce court to find her in contempt. In court papers, the singer claimed her pillorying cost him about “$400,000 in wages associated with public appearances, professional bookings, and promotional efforts related to the promotion of his new musical project.”
In another legal dispute, the couple was sued by Crowe Custom Countertops for contracted work at a property in the Atlanta suburb of Alpharetta. The city of Atlanta also hit the pair for a separate lien to the tune of more than $4,000 for taxes owed to the city.
