Larsa Pippen is cashing out after the elongated divorce battle with ex-husband Scottie Pippen ended with the reality TV star claiming half of the NBA champion’s retirement assets.
The two were married in 1997 and divorced in 2021.
The former couple’s divorce proceedings have been contentious, with details of their marriage circulating around social media since they separated. In October 2016, Scottie Pippen filed for divorce from Larsa shortly after the couple’s home in Fort Lauderdale reportedly was visited by the police twice within a two-day span due to alleged domestic disturbance incidents.
They reconciled for a while until 2018 when she filed for divorce. It was finalized in 2021.
But another court battle would ensue after Pippen claimed his prenuptial agreement with his wife of 20 years had been amended.
A Piece of the Retirement Money
On June 15, 2023 a Los Angeles court ruled that Scottie’s retirement plan with the Bulls was found to be community property of the marital estate. With the court officially recognizing Larsa as Scottie’s ex-wife and setting the separation date as Nov. 3, 2016, she was awarded 50percent of all account balances accumulated during their marriage from 1997 until their separation in 2016. In the state of California, it is common for divorce settled to end in each party splitting retirement funds.
According to documents obtained by RadarOnline, both parties have informed the court that, from here on out, Larsa will be listed as an “alternate payee” on the Chicago Bulls 401k Savings Plan Trust.
The district court also outlined the former “The Real Housewives of Miami” cast member is entitled to receive the complete amount owed to her, regardless of the current financial status of the fund, which means that the Chicago Bulls legend will be responsible for compensating his ex-wife even if the balance in the pension fund falls short of half the total accumulated between 1997 and 2016.
Inside Scottie’s Fortune
Scottie Pippen’s net worth was estimated to be around $20 million. During his career with the Bulls he earned $109 million, in addition to tens of millions from endorsement partnerships. Despite his six championship titles alongside Michael Jordan, the majority of Pippen’s career earnings came from his contract with the Rockets. Pippen also has ventured into various business endeavors and broadcast deals that have supplemented his income.
In 2021, the renowned NBA legend and entrepreneur partnered with acclaimed Wine & Spirits maker Dave Phinney to introduce DIGITS, a five-year-old bourbon that hit shelves exclusively in Chicago.
