The meme that raises the question of choosing between $500,000 or dining with Jay-Z has gained considerable prominence, as the hip-hop billionaire has said people should go for the money. In contrast, Rick Ross has conveyed to his followers his belief that Jay-Z’s wisdom would constitute a multimillion-dollar concept, at least based on his personal experience.
As Finurah previously reported, Ross has an estimated net worth of $45 million with his expenses in the past six months of reporting being as high as $100 million.
The Meeting That Changed It All
The rapper retells a story of a meeting with Jay-Z that forever altered his approach as a rapper and businessman. When his second album “Trilla” was set to debut on March 11, 2008 through Def Jam South Recordings, Jay-Z, president of Def Jam around the time, reportedly had a talk with Ross.
In his meeting, Jay-Z revealed to Ross his blueprint for success.
So from that point on, Ross has been convinced that having the opportunity to chat with Jay-Z is priceless.
“I’mma take the dinner, and I’mma tell you why. In ’08, before I turned in my second album, I had a meeting with HOV. We went to lunch: Philippe Chow, Manhattan. The chicken, the orange chicken on the stick with the peanut sauce was the vibe at the time … He said ‘Rozay, versus writing to every beat you like, write to every record you can make work.”
Ross continued about how Jay-Z shared an experience with one of his own hit singles, “He told me a quick story about ‘Big Pimpin,’ I said, okay, bet. So I went from writing one record to every 80 beats I liked, to writing 40 records out of every 80 beats I could make work. It took me to another level as a writer, another level as an artist; the amount of work I was putting out was next level.”
For Ross, the meeting with Jay-Z proved to be worth more than getting cash money upfront.
In the video, Ross went on to say, “So you have to ask yourself, are you ready to digest the knowledge, or do you just want to look at his watch at the table?”
What Jay-Z Would Choose
In a recent interview with Gayle King, on “CBS Mornings,” Jay-Z spoke about the viral meme in which a fan was asked if he wanted $500,000 or a dinner with Jay-Z. Cash was the option for the fan.
Jay-Z himself recommended that anyone offered cash or dinner with him should take the money as well.
“Because you got all that in the music for $10.99. That’s a bad deal. I wouldn’t tell you to cut a bad deal,” Jay-Z told King. “Take the $500,000; go buy some albums and listen to the albums. It’s all there.”
