NFL player Chris Jones consistently proves there is no “I” in team. As Jones is about to earn a $1.25 million bonus, he is gifting the entire defensive line and the coaches with Rolex watches, as reported by ESPN.
“The whole [defensive line] gets a Rolex,” Jones told ESPN. “[Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo] gets a Rolex, the coaches get a Rolex because I think it takes a collective [effort] in order to reach those types of goals.”
Jones is a defensive tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs. He joined the team in 2016 after being picked from the draft. In his eight years in the NFL, Jones was selected to the Pro Bowl in the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
According to Forbes, Jones is worth a reported $37 million and has more than $89 million in career NFL earnings. On top of this, he has earned an estimated $1 million in endorsement deals from brands such as Adidas, Dick’s Sporting Goods, McDonalds, Mosaic Life Care and Joe’s Kansas City BBQ.
Why the Rolexes?
Jones is gifting the defensive line and its coaches with Rolexes after earning a third-quarter sack which allowed him to reach the ten sacks for the season needed to earn the $1.25 million bonus that was included in his contract.
“I’ve never been with an older guy that did something like that,” his teammate Charles Omenihu told ESPN. “So that’s a special thing. Pretty cool.”
Looking at the Future
Jones’ is up for a contract extension in 2024. At present, he is without a deal that will extend past the Kansas City Chiefs’ postseason. Leading up to the current season, last September Jones inked a one-year deal worth more than $21 million. At a recent press conference after receiving his incentive bonus, he discussed his future.
“I think it’s more so as the goal; you usually reflect after it’s all done. You kind of reflect on it,” Jones said during the press conference. “What’s the next chapter for you? For the team. I try not to think [that] it could be my last game in Arrowhead, and who knows? But, most importantly, we got a game to play. Trying to make a deep run in these playoffs. And if it is my last time, we got to make it worthwhile.”
