Mary J. Blige, known for her singing and acting career, is also known for sporting thigh-high boots. So it’s only fitting that she will soon launch her own line of boots, ones that will embody her distinct New York style.
On Jan. 22, Blige shared insights into this new venture during an interview with Big Tigger on “The Big Tigger Morning Show,” marking her foray into the world of fashion.
“Where is the boot line?” Tigger asked.
“It’s a thing,” Blige responded, later confirming that her boots will be hitting stores in the winter holiday season, almost a whole year from now.
“Christmas!” Blige said in response to Tigger’s question about when the boots will hit stores. “We ain’t even going to production yet … it’s coming in 2 years or something, not right now [laughs] … okay one year… I’m working it out.”
Mary J–Boots and More
Blige had entered in the fashion space with the launch of a limited-edition earring collection, a collaboration with Simone I. Smith Jewelry, a jewelry company founded by Blige’s longtime friend and business partner Simone I. Smith — the wife of LL Cool J.
Vibe also reports that Blige, who is up for a 2024 Urban One Icon Award, is set to release new music later this year, promising fans will be pleased.
Her upcoming boot line should add to her $20 million net worth, one she has built up with her acting career that became lucrative when 50 Cent tapped her to star in his “Power: Book II.”
Mary J Money
Addressing Taraji P. Henson’s concerns about Black actresses’ compensation during the press tour of “The Color Purple,” 50 Cent brought up Blige as an example of how he can help Henson get more money. The rapper and TV mogul bragged that he’s gotten Blige big bucks.
While her money is flowing now, there was a time Blige had a major struggle after becoming famous. In May 2013 it was revealed she had a $3.4 million outstanding debt to the IRS and owed $900,000 to the state of New Jersey. Additionally, she was the subject of a lawsuit alleging a $2.2 million unpaid bank loan. According to reports, these woes are now behind her.
Besides her boot collection, Blige also talked about her new music in the works. During the interview the nine-time Grammy winner hinted that she was working to have new music ready by this summer.
