Real estate agents are seeking to sell a property that was previously owned by NBA star Steph Curry and his wife, Ayesha, during his earlier career. The penthouse is now listed for just under $1.689 million, marking a significant increase from what the couple sold it for.
Just two BART stops away or a short ferry ride to San Francisco, this bayfront duplex penthouse boasts nearly 2,100 square feet of space. While the property is spacious, it is also secluded and has security, and amenities like a 24-hour concierge, a fitness center, a pool and spa, and a club room.
Inside Penthouse Steph Curry Once Called Home
The lower floor features an expansive open-plan layout encompassing a living area, dining space, and a modern kitchen with double-height ceilings. It also has three bedrooms and an open kitchen.
Additionally, there’s an office area, three balconies, a sizable patio, and three parking spaces complete with an EV charger.
The interior décor boasts a predominantly white color scheme with touches of brown. Floor-to-ceiling windows adorn the space, providing breathtaking views of the San Francisco skyline, the Bay Bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge, Mount Tamalpais, and downtown Oakland.
The current owners of the penthouse bought it from the Currys in 2014 and have lived in the property for the past decade.
The Golden State Warrior point guard and his wife purchased the house for $1.475 million in 2012 but sold it two years later after he signed a four-year, $44 million contract extension with the franchise.
Karen Gartz, the listing agent for Compass Realtors, is banking on the celebrity affiliation to be part of the reason selling this home “is a slam dunk,” according to Mansion Global.
Because of its clean and modern design, she believes it will be easier to hawk than homes by other basketball greats.
Shaquille O’Neal is an example of a baller who faced challenges in selling his Florida mansion, enduring five different agents and five separate listings over three years before finally selling the property in 2021. The mansion, spanning 31,000 square feet in Isleworth, initially hit the market with an asking price of $28 million but eventually sold for $11 million, marking a significant 60 percent discount. This still was a profit as he originally copped the property for $3.95 million when he purchased it in 1993.
Michael Jordan, widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players in history, has struggled to sell his Illinois home despite listing it in 2012. Over 12 years later, the property remains unsold.
Initially priced at $29 million, the mansion’s asking price has since dropped to $14,855,000. Interestingly, the digits in this price sum up to 23, Jordan’s iconic jersey number.
The ostentatiousness of the residence is speculated to be a factor dissuading potential buyers. The entrance features Jordan’s legendary number 23 prominently displayed on the wrought-iron gate, which may be off-putting to some. Additionally, the home’s location in Highland Park, rather than closer to Lake Michigan, and the constant influx of visitors to Jordan’s residence are cited as potential deterrents.
This doesn’t seem like it will be an issue for the owner of Curry’s old home — particularly since the place has been sold already.
