Late actor Carl Weathers, best known for his iconic role as Apollo Creed in the “Rocky” franchise, left behind a substantial fortune for his two sons, Matthew and Jason Weathers.
According to unconfirmed InTouch sources, nearly five months since his death the estate has now been valued at over $870,000 and will be split between the two brothers.
Carl Weathers’ Stashed Cash
Weathers passed away on Feb. 2 at the age of 76 from atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. According to court documents, the estate administrator has finalized all outstanding issues, including taxes and property evaluations. No creditors came forward, allowing the estate to be closed smoothly, Sports Illustrated reported.
The bulk of Weather’s estate includes two bank accounts totaling $147,000 and safety deposit boxes containing a surprising $664,000 in cash, according to court documents obtained by People. Additionally, a 2018 GMC pickup truck valued at $58,000 is part of the inheritance.
Weathers had a living trust which is the beneficiary of the estate. The beneficiaries of the trust are confidential, Weathers’ lawyer, Charles Meyer, told People.
Weathers’ will was first signed in 1988 and then updated with a codicil in 1994. he bequeathed all his personal belongings to his now-adult sons, Matthew and Jason.
“I give all of my jewelry, art objects, clothing, personal automobiles, club memberships, boats and recreational vehicles, and other tangible articles of a personal nature” to Matthew and Jason, according to the will.
The estate administrator requested $20,000 in fees for managing the estate and an additional $20,000 for legal fees, leaving the remaining assets to be distributed between Matthew and Jason, Sports Illustrated reported.
The late actor’s family released a heartfelt statement shortly after his death: “Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts, and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations.”
Before getting into acting, Weathers played two seasons as a linebacker for the Oakland Raiders (1970 and 1971).
In addition to his the “Rocky” movies, he also starred as Chubbs Peterson in “Happy Gilmore,” Colonel Al Dillon in “Predator,” and Greef Karga in “The Mandalorian.”
Weathers’ passing deeply affected his co-stars. Sylvester Stallone, who shared the screen with Carl in the “Rocky” series, said, “He had the voice, the talent, the humor. He had it all… I couldn’t have made it without him.”
