After recently doing an interview discussing how and why she had embraced frugality, many are surprised to find out award-winning actress Keke Palmer owns a multimillion dollar home. And now she’s listed her Brooklyn abode for $2,999,999. The going price is $650,000 more than she paid for the Williamsburg penthouse in 2020.
Money’s In The House
The “Akilah and the Bee” star, who is also promoting her book “Master of Me: The Secret of Controlling Your Narrative,” has a reputation for financial prudence, despite her often over-the-top and fabulous persona — and now the revelation of her $3 million penthouse.
“If I got $10,000 in the bank, then my house would be $500 a month. That’s how under I mean, because I can probably afford something $2,500 maybe, but I’m going way under,” Palmer once explained during a conference, emphasizing her preference for living below her means.
This statement is probably true, as Palmer, who has another home in Los Angeles, is estimated to have a net worth of $7.5 million.
“Instead of wearing Gucci, I’m wearing Zara,” she continued. “I live in a good place. I drive a cool car, ’cause my money is going elsewhere. … I got a Toyota right now in my driveway.”
While she may have a Toyota in her driveway, her New York penthouse is decked out. It has three bedrooms and 1,482 square feet of living space. Having bought the lux home for $2.35 million in 2020, it features interiors by designer Paris Forino and includes wide-plank oak floors, a chef’s kitchen, and spa-like baths. The luxury home, located in a nine-story building on North 7th Street that was built in 2019.
With 680 square feet of outdoor space spread across two terraces, the penthouse offers stunning views of New York City, perfect for relaxing with her young son, Leodis “Leo” Andrellton Jackson.
The home also features Leo’s nursery, which is simply decorated in white and gray with touches of yellow.
Despite Brooklyn’s real estate market hitting record highs, Palmer’s asking price suggests she may be prioritizing a quick sale over maximizing profits. This is surprising as real estate has been on an uptick in the borough, which would be the third largest city in the country and larger than 15 states across the nation, according to PIX 11.
According to the October 2024 Elliman Report, the median sales price for Brooklyn apartments reached an all-time high of $990,000 in Q2, driven by a 14.3 percent increase in condo prices to nearly $1.1 million compared to last year — which is record high. The penthouse market, while not specifically tracked, likely mirrors this trend, leaving some to wonder if Palmer could have sought a higher return.
For comparison, rapper Kendrick Lamar purchased a four-bedroom penthouse in Brooklyn in 2023 for $8.6 million — nearly three times the price of Palmer’s listing. While both properties reflect the growing allure of Brooklyn’s luxury market, Palmer’s choice may underscore her frugality.
She most likely has been advised on the move by her listing broker Monica Novo of Douglas Elliman, who also was Palmer’s agent when she purchased the residence four years ago.
