During the holiday season, many families break the bank and spend lavishly on gifts. But there’s one couple who share a different perspective on the Christmas season. Dwyane Wade and his wife, Gabrielle Union, enjoy creating experiences for their families, he recently shared with E!News.
What’s Under The Christmas Tree?
“Gab and I have learned it’s not about the price tag or going over the top with gifts. It’s about making it meaningful, something that speaks to who we are as a couple,” Wade told E!News. “We try to focus on experiences. It’s about creating memories, not just unwrapping a box. At the end of the day, it’s the thought and love behind the gift that counts. That’s how we keep it special every year.”
Wade, a retired NBA player who won three NBA championships with the Miami Heat, has been married to actress Gabrielle Union since 2014. Union has starred in films such as “Bring It On” and the television series “Being Mary Jane.” With a combined estimated net worth of $210 million — Wade, $170 million, Union is worth $40 million — the couple resides in Hidden Hills, California.
Wade and Union share one child, Kaavia. Union is a stepmother to Wade’s children — Xavier, Zaya, and Zair — and his nephew, Dahveon. As a family, Wade says they love spending time together and supporting each other. In the past Union has posted Christmas celebrations of the family donning matching pajamas and enjoying the festivities. In 2020, Union partnered with Amazon to support over 100 charitable organizations through Amazon Smile Charity Lists.
“There’s just something special about having everyone together under one roof, especially after a long, crazy year,” Wade shared. “I spend so much time traveling during the year even after retiring, so when the holidays roll around, it’s like a timeout from everything.”
Despite the frenzy over Christmas, Wade’s favorite holiday is Thanksgiving, as he enjoys spending time with immediate and extended family.
“Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and each year we host at my house,” Wade said. “I look forward to seeing all of my close family and friends in one room and the amazing conversations we have each year.”
