Why the Deaparture

The son of basketball legend Michael Jordan said he is moving on to opportunities that “better align with where I am today—both professionally and personally,” according to WWD. The transition comes after years of controversy and criticism surrounding Trophy Room’s role in several high-profile sneaker releases.

He said, “I’m excited for a new chapter and new challenges. My time at Trophy Room will stay with me forever. I truly appreciate the continued love and support,” Complex reported.

Despite stepping back Jordan confirmed he will retain the Trophy Room trademark and intellectual property and he suggested the brand could potentially return in the future.

Trophy Room will continue operating online transitioning to an online-exclusive experience under a different brand identity.

Trophy Room originally opened at Disney Springs in 2016 and operated there until 2019.

Following the closure of the Disney Springs location the business operated exclusively online for three years before opening a downtown Orlando storefront in 2022, Complex reported.

Trophy Room and Jordan Brand began collaborating in 2016 with two Air Jordan 23 sneakers released to celebrate the store’s opening, according to WWD.

Their most recent collaboration was the 2024 Air Jordan 1 Low collection inspired by Michael Jordan’s rare 1986 Fleer Basketball rookie card, Complex reported.

A planned Air Jordan 6 collaboration expected for release in 2025 never materialized.

Trophy Room became the subject of widespread criticism among sneaker collectors in 2021 after allegations of “backdooring” surfaced regarding its Air Jordan 1 collaboration.

Many pairs appeared on the resale market before the official release date while relatively few consumers reported successfully purchasing the sneakers through the public launch.

Allegations emerged claiming pairs had been privately sold to select buyers before the public release.

Some buyers confirmed they were allowed to purchase pairs for as much as $1,200 per pair, Complex reported.

Separate from the Trophy Room announcement Marcus Jordan recently completed the terms of a plea agreement stemming from his February 2025 arrest, according to TMZ.

Jordan was arrested after allegedly driving under the influence in a Lamborghini SUV that became stuck on railroad tracks.

Police reported that Jordan allegedly smelled of alcohol had slurred speech and had bloodshot eyes during the encounter. He was given a field sobriety test, which police said he did not perform successfully. Officers also said they found a white powder in Jordan’s pocket that later tested positive for ketamine, Complex reported.

Jordan pleaded not guilty to the charges, according to TMZ.

Under his plea agreement Jordan was required to submit to random drug testing pay a $1,000 fine install an ignition interlock device on his vehicle complete 50 hours of community service and write an apology letter to an officer involved in the arrest.
