Former NFL cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones said his mother was spending about $82,000 in a single month during the first two years of his NFL career with the Tennessee Titans.

Speaking on the “I Am Athlete” podcast, Jones recalled that his wife discovered the spending after reviewing his bank statements. The clip, originally from a May 29, 2022, episode titled “How Most NFL Guys Go Broke,” recently resurfaced on social media and went viral.

“My first two years, I put up probably half of my signing bonus. I would see the statements, but I wasn’t paying attention. And my wife looked at the statements. She said, ‘Goddamn, man, your bills were $82,000 this month. It’s like your mama’s bills are more than yours,’” Jones said.

According to Spotrac, Jones signed a five-year, $28.25 million rookie contract with the Tennessee Titans after being selected sixth overall in the 2005 NFL Draft.

The deal included a $2 million signing bonus and $11.3 million in guaranteed money.

He earned approximately $3.8 million in 2005 and nearly $8 million in 2006, totaling about $11.8 million over his first two NFL seasons.

While Jones attributed part of his financial strain to family spending, his off-field legal troubles also disrupted his career.

Jones had a history of incidents tied to nightclubs and other entertainment venues during the early years of his NFL career, The Gainesville Sun reported.

In July 2005, he was arrested after a fight outside a Nashville nightclub, though the charges were later dismissed.

In April 2006, he was arrested on misdemeanor assault and felony vandalism charges following an altercation at a Fayetteville, Georgia, nightclub.

In August 2006, he was arrested on public intoxication and disorderly conduct charges outside a Murfreesboro, Tennessee, nightclub.

The most high-profile incident occurred in February 2007, when he was investigated — but never charged — in connection with a shooting outside the Minxx Gentleman’s Club in Las Vegas after an altercation that authorities said began when Jones threw about $81,000 onto the stage, sparking a dispute over who could collect the money, The Sun reported.

The dispute left one man paralyzed.

Jones’ legal troubles continued after his playing career.

In recent years, he has faced multiple arrests on allegations including public intoxication, disorderly conduct, assault of a police officer, airport-related disturbances, and assault charges stemming from separate incidents, CBS Sports reported.

He has pleaded not guilty in some cases, while others have resulted in reduced charges, dismissals, or plea agreements.

His most recent arrest occurred in June 2025, when Kentucky authorities charged him with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and assaulting a police officer.

His attorney has denied the allegations.

As Finurah previously reported, former Titans defensive back Darrell Baker Jr. explained how he expected to earn a rookie salary of roughly $750,000, only to see his income fall significantly after being assigned to the practice squad following training camp.
