Actor and Entrepreneur Brian White Talks Starting His App Snapcall During a Pandemic: ‘We Wanted a Tech-Based Solution for Everybody’

For many people in the United States, the coronavirus pandemic has immensely impacted their way of living and making money. Some professionals have gone from corporate buildings to freelance gigs, or in some cases, created new ventures out of a devastating situation altogether. 

Insert actor and entrepreneur Brian White. The former professional football player turned film star, most notable for films such as “Stomp the Yard” and “Cabin Fever,” set out to assist with that dilemma with his latest business endeavor.

Out of the necessity to manage his time and jobs outside of acting, White created “Snapcall.” Snapcall is the first business platform focused solely on the modern-day hustler running their business through text messaging.

“Traditionally, we’ve had to go seek out jobs from big corporations. There’s only one way to get hired. And then, you know, the American dream is basically about making more money than your parents,” the actor told Atlanta Black Star recently. “So, one of the things we wanted to do was level the playing field and fix a few of the hurdles that are in the way of the gig economist, for people like myself who do a bunch of jobs, not just one.”

White claims that unlike social media, Snapcall allows its users to connect directly with their customers and learn who they are as people without the added burden of an online algorithm that ultimately handles who sees and engages with the user’s content.  

With Snapcall, users get a personalized number with an area code of their choosing. The app allows you to capture your customer’s preferences, psychographics, and even buying behaviors. With Snapcall, individuals can also set up automatic payment and scheduling. One of its features, SnapFlow, provides a single link to your store, social posts, and website that you can send to your customers via a text message. 

“Now I can promote them [products or services] on all of my social media, and everybody can actually, with one click, buy them and get to them without me having to do anything extra. That’s what’s Snapcall is,” White said. 

This new app is free to those interested, but it also offers tiers of paid plans as users grow their businesses.

Despite making the daring move to start a business during a global pandemic, White reveals he and his business partners have only faced minor disruptions during Snap’s launch. He also announced that they’ve recently been working on getting their iOS app to go live. 

“And that process in particular with Apple, they really have a whole group of people come in and play with it,” the actor said. “They want to see what their competition is.”

White said early on he noticed that there was a lot to gain from diving into the tech world. “Netflix, Amazon, etc., they’re not media companies. Netflix is the biggest, quote unquote media company in the world, but it’s a tech company. It’s defined as a tech company. It’s an app. You happen to own all the content,” he said. “So as I see everything moving towards tech, we wanted a tech-based solution for everybody. So I’m betting on the future. In 10 years, there won’t be anything but tech companies and everybody will be using their cellphone.”
